how about something along this line

This still does not give you the 2.5 stud distance but might be a good starting
point to go from.
a couple of questions, do you want to use the magnet as a coupler and what do
you mean by attatching a beam?

| (...) Agreed! This might be the way to do it. It is not strong, but you can add a 1/2 brick technic bush ((URL) ) there - that might do it. (...) Beam - technic beam. Eg: (URL) then attaching the magnet to it. BR S (21 years ago, 28-Nov-03, to lugnet.trains)
