Re: Bogie design (coupler) —Ross Crawford
(...) Have you tried using one of these? (URL) (21 years ago, 28-Nov-03, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Bogie design (coupler) —Sonnich Jensen
(...) It does center it, but it does not give the 1/2 stud offset I need in the other direction. Also: 1) I cannot attach a beam to it and keep in in position. 2) using it as an extension is not an option as it is too wide (2 studs - well 1,5 from (...)      (...) Sorry didn't see the reply to ross when i wrote my other mail how about something along this line (URL) still does not give you the 2.5 stud distance but might be a good starting point to go from. a couple of questions, do you want to use the (...)          Re: Bogie design (coupler) —Sonnich Jensen
(...) Agreed! This might be the way to do it. It is not strong, but you can add a 1/2 brick technic bush ((URL) ) there - that might do it. (...) Beam - technic beam. Eg: (URL) then attaching the magnet to it. BR S (21 years ago, 28-Nov-03, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Bogie design (coupler) —Larry Pieniazek
(...) Check. That sort of thing is often done by builders who are putting their trucks somewhat inboard of the car ends so that the magnet can swivel freely and can reach the car end to mate with the next car. Real cars body mount their couplers in (...) (21 years ago, 28-Nov-03, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Bogie design (coupler) —Manfred Moolhuysen
Even better: by using this part: Technic Rotor 2 Blade with 2 Studs [LDrawPart 2711:7] you can achieve the desired 2,5 stud offset, by putting two Plates 1 x 1 Round under the part (one in the hole at one of the ends and the other right next to it) (...)          Re: Bogie design (coupler) —Tim David
(...) You mean like (URL), very clever, you've done this before, haven't you! I wondered about the strength at first but the fact that the stud on top of the "Technic Rotor 2 Blade with 2 Studs" meshes with the bottom of the bogie plate just adds (...)       (...) Tim, I like these little renderings you've been working up VERY much. I hope I can convince you to make up an FTX page with all of them in it, (which I would then link to from the header) (1) because it's good stuff, good stuff indeed. The use (...)           Re: Bogie design (coupler) —Tim David
(...) I got the impression that that was what he was aming for, I wasn't certain that it would work tho as the coupling could just swing any which way. You could mount the coupling straight on the rotor arm but it wouldn't be at Lego™ standard (...) (21 years ago, 28-Nov-03, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Bogie design (coupler) —Manfred Moolhuysen

Re: Bogie design (coupler) —Tim David
Instead of a bogie plate you can always use a Tile, Modified 2 x 2 with Pin [LDrawPart 2460:0] This gives you more flexibility with how you attache beams etc. you alos don't have to have the pivot poit in the centre of the bogie. Tim (21 years ago, 1-Dec-03, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Bogie design (coupler) —Larry Pieniazek
(...) Yep. I actually use this in MTW-1003 because I want the wobble this gives you (it's a bit taller of a pin than a normal bogie plate's pin which fits into two plates worth of space, this is a full brick thick or 2.5 plates) but the flexibility (...)
