I was very impressed to find that a 3-in-a-row configuration of the BBB wheels with flanges can pass through track curves: allowing the center wheel set to translate in/out seems just fine. I haven’t tested through switches. Also, in the same 3-in-a-row configuration, I connected two adjacent wheels with the Technic steering arm, using the black Technic 1/2-pin with ball. The flexure at the ball joints seems OK to still allow the necessary central axle translation through the curve.

On thing I was wondering with these wheels is how to do a full coupling rod for rigid six coupled chassis, would this work?

I love the model of the Ae 3/6. the early Swiss locs with their odd wheel arrangments and cranks are a favorite and I think work well in lego, modern euro diesels and electrics tend to be difficult to pin down in Lego, they often end up as boxes because it is difficult to pin down the suble shapes that give them their character.

The wheels seem to stick out too far on your mock-up, I’m aware they are ‘placeholders’ for the new ones but surely they should stick out as far as the standard 12v wheels you have also used.

(...) This may be a bit of optical illusion, for the placement of the oversize diameter place-holder wheels penetrate the 9v rail. Maybe that gives the appearance that the wheels stick out left/right farther than do the 12v wheels? See this (URL) (...) (21 years ago, 11-Nov-03, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Ben kindly sent to me 6 of his BBB brand wheels. Thanks, Ben! I've tinkered with them a little. I'm really impressed with them: the ABS material feels quality the molding is excellent the Technic cross-axle hole is nice and tight the Technic pin (...)
