Hi Larry,

I just saw your mountain/quarry in .build.  I was speechless!  That mountain
is quite impressive.  I am a .castle guy myself, but I like seeing what is
going on elsewhere.  Your mountain sure grabbed my attention.  A guy in
.castle just built one similar looking, but with a castle on
it(http://www.ragnarok7.com/Tauros%20Outpost/AAAOverview.jpg). I think yours
is bigger.  They look like they are part of the same mountain range though.
Yours is at a more modern date of course :-).  Did you build this randomly
or did you have a plan?  The spacing of the bricks appears to be at random
and the effect is perfect.  I am going to have to study your pictures some
more.  I am truly impressed by this mountain.

Build On,
Josh

These are deep links, thanks to Peter for taking pics. More pics surely will
be available later but in case you're interested and can't wait...

Mountain overall shots

This mountain takes up 2x3 15" grey baseplates. It splits into 3 sections of
1x2 for transport.

"new" tunnel portal (the other one, shown in the 002 pic, is a bit older
styled and has an older date)

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/pguenthe/0211-livonia/pb240004.jpg

I kinda liked the cell tower on top... my criticism of my own work overall
is that it has too many colors, if I had been able to get dark grey 2x4s in
the quantities I wanted it would be mostly dark grey.

There are very few BURPS/LURPS in it at all. less than a dozen even counting
the back side that you can't see very well! Not sure exactly how that
rider/horse got up there but they are going to have a hard time picking
their way back down again I suspect.

My favorite part, though is probably the waterfall, which is shown pretty
clearly in 002. It's an old waterfall as it has etched/eroded its way back
into the rock. Most people with waterfalls don't etch back quite that far.
Thank you Harry Potter for the frogs. The gate on the flood control dam is
due to Nik.

003 shows the quarry rock face including drill/compressor and a bulkhead
flat receiving a load.

Quarry overall shot (the quarry was a last minute add because I was running
out of time to sculpt the end of the mountain, and it was faster to build
almost regular walls with dynamite holes)

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/pguenthe/0211-livonia/pb240007.jpg

Note the good supplies of rock pieces on pallets ready for shipment, and the
heavy duty forklift (modeled after a 1949 Yale I remember from a summer job
that could lift 15,000 pounds) loading onto a truck.

Note also the use of Rock Raiders workers in the quarry, it somehow seemed
fitting. Two of them are using big saws to slice a block into rock sheets,
and one is on the rock face (standing way too close to the rock drill even
with eye protection!). They also are the drivers and workers on other machines.

Those are "BrikWorx gravel gondolas" (somewhat improved, of course, I don't
like train baseplates) on the siding. I meant to build a rock crusher tower
to justify the gravel loads... next show, hopefully.

Finally, where some of the rock is destined for, Peter's "Mariner's Church"
still under construction... note the quarry truck delivering a load. That
truck is a Nik special, he took a Tyne dairy truck and modified it with some
feedback from me, (dual rear, wider longer flat bed instead of refrigerator
back) and then cranked out 3 copies for me (one being loaded, one waiting
for dispatch, one at the church).

Note that all this fits onto 30" wide table sections, which was quite
constraining after the rather expansive layouts we usually do (30" is only
enough for one loop without some tricks...)

Enjoy.
