Sounds like a fun layout! I really like the kind of tracks where the train
_really_ travels some distance and you have to move to keep the train in
view :-) Trains running from one room to another are big fun! :-)

I'm thinking of operating the trains the LEGO way- I have a few 12V signals
that work perfectly in a 9V layout. The signals should work to prevent
trains from entering blocks they're not allowed to enter. So it will be
mainly manual labour (uh-huh read pressing buttons) to drive the trains but
I think it's more fun than having the trains to go on full automatic.

I might concider to run one loop using DCC, but I'm not sure how it would
work. How does DCC communicate with the controlling unit in what block the
train is? I have seen a few webpages about how to build a DCC unit in trains
but I have no clue in what way the train is 'aware' of where it actually is
on the layout.

| (...) It's not aware as to where it is, that _can_ be done, but I haven't investigated far enough to tell _how_ to do it. (You can cornfield meet 2 trains with DCC easy...its much harder to do so with regular train wiring) DCC is primarily intended (...) (24 years ago, 25-Apr-01, to lugnet.trains)
