  another design for automated points

Hello everybody, Based on what I saw after reading Chris Masi's post on his automated points creation ((URL) I began to do some thinking of my own and came up with a design for automated points which are controlled with a Bar code Unit. I used a (...) (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Need some help with some Train specs

(...) Gauge is -nothing- to do with scale. The proof can be had with N scale (or 2mm scale, if you use UK conventions) Why? Because, 2mm scale, Standard gauge, works out to 9.42mm track gauge. Not 9mm. So, if you are running you "scale" 1/148th (...) (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Scale - it's all in the aspect ratio

(...) No. We know that most of _continental europe, the UK and North America_ are 4-8-1/2". However, there is a lot of narrow gauge stuff around, and a fair amount of broad gauge too. All of Russia is 5' something. Africa is mostly 3'6", Australia (...) (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Need some help with some Train specs

These data are from a handbook of TRAIN model, you will see the gauge is not only by width between rail, also by scale of model. Zhengrong Type Width of Rail Scare in Japan in USA in Europe in UK 1 45mm 1/30 1/32 1/32 1/32 O 32mm 1/45 1/48 1/45 (...) (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.trains)

  Stop the 8 Wide Insanity!

Okay, I am going to cease and desist on the topic of 8 wide, maybe forever, if all you naysayers would just consider this: -8 wide is no different in scale than 6 wide-- same minifig, same track. -8 wide is plain and simply 6 wide plus a row of 1xs (...)   Re: Hypothetically Speaking...

(...) Hmmm... I'm going to come down on the other side from most of the posts in this thread. I'd really like to see Lego produce some 8 wide train models. Personally, I build in 6, 7 or 8 wide. I mix and match them on the same train and I don't (...) (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Scale - it's all in the aspect ratio

(...) Careful with your vocabulary. The word "gauge" specifically refers to the distance between the rails. I think you mean "scale". (...) Good way IMO to determine scale. We know that proto is 4' 8 1/2" and so it's easy to figure out. (...) (...) (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: New Track radius question

(...) I believe you mean 40 studs... You would want to increase the radius in 2.5" increments (8 studs) so that a semi-circle will still measure out to equal a set number of straight tracks. The current curve will form a circle that is as wide as 5 (...) (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: End of 9V train line?!

But I believe the RCX-story is the reason why Lego has problems now, in Austria the RCX-sets are sold very good, but they are not used by the children, but by theire parents! So it could imagine that the target-group of people are adults in this (...) (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.trains)

Scale - it's all in the aspect ratio

So, I have been reading posts and thinking about tight curves vs large layouts vs long train cars... here's some thoughts to react to... There seems to be several ways to skin this cat. You can determine gauge by starting with: 1) Rail width 2) Rail (...) (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.trains)

  New Track radius question

I just measured and the radius of LEGO track and it's 20 studs (to the center of the tie). The question is what should the wider track radius be. Add 8 studs and the ties are touching end-to-end, not a great solution, way to close. There needs to be (...) (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Hypothetically Speaking...

(...) Hear Hear, 6 or 8 either way bigger radius curves, 1/2 and 1/4 length straight track would be welcomed by all. If TLG wants sales to all, make a track adjustment pack available. While their at it "Y" and "X" points would be a nice addition (...) (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Custom Builded Train Station

Just a suggestion on web page design... DO NOT use fullsize pics and just use Height and Width to resize them. It's just rude to people on dialups. If you want a page to have small thumbnails, MAKE THUMBNAILS, and link them to the fullsized pics. (...) (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.trains)
