Uh, actually I’ve just realised that I was mistaken as to the definition of
the word dinky. I didn’t realise it meant small or insignificant. What I
meant was it looked like an old-fashioned toy, like a Dinky(TM) Toy.

Hey Paul,
Thanks for posting this picture. When I first saw it I was amused by the
‘armoured” car having the occupants so exposed. Later, I noticed that the box
proclaims(1) that it was designed by Gerry Anderson and that he was responsible
for Thunderbirds, Space 1999, and UFO, so it was nice to have another wave
of nostalgia. I never saw one of these toys though; what few Dinky Toys we
encountered were ordinary cars and trucks.
I thought others might be interested in Gerry Anderson’s bio, as you may also be
unaware of the connections: more about him.
This brings me to another point about nostalgia. Keep in mind how old we were
when a particular set was the coolest thing in the world. Your 10 year old self
had a different point of view than your adult self. I remember seeing
Thunderbirds when I was a child, and then when I saw a bit of the show a few
years ago, I was surprised to see that they used marrionettes rather than
people. I hadn’t noticed that as a child.
So, I’m cutting a little slack for the inner child...
