8466 4 wheel steering? —Maico Arts
Hello I just got the 8466 4x4 car and of course had to build it immidiatly. The car has four wheel drive and uses the powerpuller wheels as we all have seen on the pictures. The front wheels aar driven and steered through one part, the rear wheels (...) (23 years ago, 26-Aug-01, to lugnet.technic)

(...) For those who are curious (that'll be most of you who haven't yet got one then!), I have posted photos of the new parts at: (URL) are enough specialised parts included to make it into 4WS, that I'm sure of - you'd just need to add an extra (...)       (...) 8880-setup. Very cleverly done. Can I ask a question about the hole in the yellow thing with the four ball joints? Is the diameter of the hole the same as the ordinary technic axles? I.e., can you put a technic axle through it in the usual (...) (23 years ago, 26-Aug-01, to lugnet.technic)

Re: 8466 4 wheel steering? —Chris Fenter
(...) agreed! (...) As they stand, slim chance of a cross-axle going through in the normal way, as the yellow & black parts are pre-assembled (I'll let someone else try separating them first...!!), and there's a bulkhead/lip inside the black piece (...)       (...) how did I miss that?! Yep, I've tried it now; I attached 8462 wheels to them, and it works a treat - 2 pulleys makes sure there's no play. The problem is that, even with the wheels fitted as inboard as possible, flipped so that the track is (...) (23 years ago, 27-Aug-01, to lugnet.technic)

<snip!> Extra information - The parts come as in the shot "closeup1" - i.e. the black and yellow pieces are already assembled together, and it looks as though it might be tricky to get them apart at all without damage. Chris. (23 years ago, 26-Aug-01, to lugnet.technic)

Re: 8466 4 wheel steering? —Fredrik Glöckner
(...) Perhaps it can be made narrower with the differential as well? I played around a bit with this on the 8880, and here's some ideas: (URL) would really like to see the specialized parts from 8466 in a service pack too! I doubt that we will see (...) Of course, yet another alternative is Jennifer Clark's flexible Znap axle solution, (URL) of course any solutions that (re)move the differential to an inboard position have their own 'packaging' problems that have to be (...)       (...) That's just the kind of challenges I like! Perhaps I should try to grab one of the 8466 sets. On the other hand, I kinda like making small vehicles nowadays. BTW, can I ask one more question on the 8466 setup? One problem with the 8880 setup (...) (23 years ago, 29-Aug-01, to lugnet.technic)

(...) I would recommend it, for sure, for the new parts (the springs are unique too, as they are stiffer than the grey/black ones, in the same way as 8458's yellow springs are), and the chunky, robust design, but the one thing that disappoints me is (...)       (...) I certainly like the way most of the new cars use only one shock absorber per wheel. That is much more realistic than the twin shock abosorbers from 8880. It is also better, as two shock absorbers add more friction to the suspension, making it (...) (23 years ago, 30-Aug-01, to lugnet.technic)

(...) I'm guessing that the setup with the three friction pegs gives the wheel some more stability. If they had used only a cross axle, the wheel might have been a bit sloppy.
