Ideas for new sets? —Jonathan Lill
There has been a lot of grousinf about the current andrecent Technic line and I share some of those concerns. With more and more character or story driven sets falling under the Technic Rubric (i.e. Bionicle, Roboriders) sets focusing on (...) (23 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.technic)

(...) sets. (...) I assume that by 'Super Car' you mean the new one <set:8448>. The old <set:8880> is a must have and I consider it to be in the top 3 sets of all times. Even the <set:8448> is a great set in my opinion. "basic suspension, engine, (...) (23 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Ideas for new sets? —James Powell
(...) I've done a clutch, but it ate LOTS of power, and didn't work all that well. Brakes would be nice. A hand brake is probably doable in the current supercar (I haven't tried). Foot brakes would need something like flex system to activate. Even (...) (23 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Ideas for new sets? —David Arnon
(...) How come it eats a lot of power? Once it's locked, it's locked... right? After one part of the clutch stops spinning in relation to the other part it's just a (bulky) part of the drive axle, or did you use a more complex implementation with a (...)            Re: Ideas for new sets? —James Powell
(...) The problem was that it took 3-4 shafts (I forget, since I have since dismantled it) to build one that worked (at least 3). The more separate shafts you have, along with end thrusts, the more power drawn off the motor. It worked, but was not (...) (23 years ago, 30-Mar-01, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Ideas for new sets? —Steve Lane
(...) Why make life difficult for yourself putting brakes in the wheel assembly? It would probably work better if you put a brake on the transmission instead. You would then only need one and it could be put anywhere between the rear dif and the (...) (23 years ago, 30-Mar-01, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Ideas for new sets? —Simon Bennett
Steve said... (...) I would suggest you've answered your own question, we who care about representing 'real' engineering in brick form would rather have a solution which is as close as possible to the real thing (this is why I am attempting to make (...)           Re: Ideas for new sets? —James Powell
Some vehicles prototypically have brakes on (...) not quite true. One of the cars I drive on occasion has its brake on the dif (it has no transmission per se, just a chain and dif aft of the engine...its a replica of a 1903 Locomobile) I'm just (...)           Re: Ideas for new sets? —Henry Chea
(...) I've tried making such a system, and unless lego comes out with high-friction pads, there is no way to clamp down a 4x4 pulley hard enough to notice any braking action. The ratio between 4x4 pulley and big wheel is too great, plus us humans (...) (23 years ago, 30-Mar-01, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Ideas for new sets? —Ross Crawford
(...) How about putting a rubber band in the groove of the pulley, and have the calipers grip opposide sides (ie accross a diameter)? Not as technically correct, but a lot more stopping power. Or use rubber bands on the calipers themselves? ROSCO (23 years ago, 31-Mar-01, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Ideas for new sets? —Henry Chea
(...) I've done many of those functions with my McLaren F1 MOC... 1. It uses the white clutch gear for a limited-slip differential. 2. 1st gear acts as the hand brake for now :) . 3. It has inboard brakes for the rear... Couldn't find room for (...) (23 years ago, 30-Mar-01, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Ideas for new sets? —Jonathan Lill
(...) I agree with your opinion. I love 8448 and I bought it because I had missed out on 8880. At the time too I didn't realize that Lego had done a gear box before and was absolutely enthralled by its construction. But even with 8448, for all its (...)          Re: Ideas for new sets? —David Arnon
(...) A Model Team race bike! Now that's a great idea! I think an UCS bike set with a considerable number of pieces would be even better. LEGO would probably need to create a new wheel for it - the wheels on the <set:8422> are not big enough for (...) (23 years ago, 30-Mar-01, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.modelteam)

YES!!! Proper motorbike wheels! Spoked, if possible, and 80+mm diameter.... I definitely second the wish for Model Team motorbikes. See (URL) (23 years ago, 30-Mar-01, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.modelteam)

Re: Ideas for new sets? (re: motorcycles) —Jonathan Lill
(...) I just found a new mega blok set that is along the lines of what I wish LEGO would make. (URL) course, it looks cheap, the colors stink, there isn't the level of detail I would expect from a Model Team set or want in a Technic set, but its a (...)        (...) That set doesn't look too different from the old Mag Wheel Master (URL) a model team motorcycle would be something Lego hasn't done before. (23 years ago, 6-Apr-01, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.modelteam)

Re: Ideas for new sets? (re: motorcycles) —Hao-yang Wang
(...) [...] (...) It looks more like <set:8422> than 8417. On the other hand, it has "real-working rear suspension", but no gears, chains, engines, etc. -- mechanisms that make the Technic 8417 and 8422 so enjoyable. In terms of functionality, this (...)      (...) Well, The <set:8422> wheels are aprox. 83mm in diameter (with the tires), so what I would want is more like 120+mm. - David (23 years ago, 7-Apr-01, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.modelteam)
