Yeah, kinda too bad we don't have more time... I don't think I'll keep mine up
for too long after the event, tho... I've been on a castle theme kick for a
while, but with most of my grey bricks used up in the AT-AT (and now the
mountain too) I've been stuck just imagining... So I've been itching to
dismantle it :(

One thing I like about the Forest Idea is I would be able to camoflage the
base with vines/bushes/flowers etc. instead of just White.  I just think that
with all the Gray going into the base that color needs to come somewhere.

Ok, I tried it last night. I built a mountain side 37 bricks high (I don't know
how high your base walls are), and I speckled it with white, and covered the
ground in white too. It looks pretty damn good (if I do say so myself, which I
probably shouldn't). So I set up a little Mt.Everest expedition w/ modified
winter gear figs, and the 3 pronged mini-anchor w/ rope... looks pretty cool...
4 minifigs scaling the rock face in the snow... I was about to take the snow
off and test with brown and green foliage, but I looked at the clock which read
"12:15", and sadly, I had to go to work in the morning. So I left it alone and
I'll have to go back and try it with brown and green. Meanwhile I'd say
pictures are in order-- I like it muchly.

Anyway, as for size, it looks like I can easily do one 48x48 baseplate with a
37 brick high (~50 feet in minifig feet) mountain side, but I don't think I can
do quite squeeze 2 of them... But at like roughly 30 bricks high, I think I
could get 2 48x48's...

This sounds really good.  I have even seen some decent trees made out of Brown
Bricks and some of the Green foliage parts that could be really cool around
the edges.

Yeah, I've got 6 brown castle wall corners (and 2 more as soon as my order gets
in from Tom Schlosser) so I can make a 6' thick tree about 10 bricks high
(well, really higher, but I dont know how exactly I'd work the branches yet)..
might look good as a token oak tree or something...

We could even do both and just alternate exteriours of the base depending on
how we feel.

Hmm... I'll see if I can get a picture of the snow one for you guys tonight...
not sure I can, but I'll try... Anyway, after seeing the snow one, I really
like it. So I might be tempted to use both schemes...

I will have to try this as well.  (I think Shaun ment the sailor/porter type
hat not the baseball one)  I was actually thinking that if they had a Black
version of the Blue "Union Soldier" Cap in the Wild West sets (there is a Dk
Gray version in Rock Raiders as well.

Hmm... not sure I know which piece this is... it comes with the police and
delivery boys? In black... Hmm.... I'll have to look into it more... The dark
grey union soldier hat would look great! If only we can find it in black...
although I guess we might be able to do a dark grey minifig, instead of a black
one... we'll have to see...

Laterz,
DaveE
