Hi Chris, thanks for the comments!  I still can sit there and look at it myself.
The thing is, in the pictures so far, you don't see all the slopes that are on
the INSIDE!  On most of the decks, in order to form a "join" between plates,
there are 45 degree and 75 (3 high) degree slopes forming the corridors and room
perimeters.  Also on most decks, the top level of bricks has many inverted
slopes for aesthetics, and to hold the ceiling (or next decks' floor, depending
how you view it) together better and transfer stress between beams and floor
plates.

So most corridors look like this, in a cross-section:
