.Space MOC/idea repository concept for discussion —James Wilson
To the .Space community: Whereas .Space is the best Lugnet group, and Whereas some of us have much more time available sitting in front of a computer, rather than building, I have a proposal for the .Space group. I’m sure some of you have attempted (...) (21 years ago, 21-Aug-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: .Space MOC/idea repository concept for discussion —Felix Greco
(...) I think this is a good idea. I've, several times, gone looking for a model I thought I saw a long time ago, only to find the creator has dropped out of the scene. So, again, great idea. I'll be excited to see it when you get it all put (...) (21 years ago, 21-Aug-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: .Space MOC/idea repository concept for discussion —James Wilson
(...) Exactly the tragedy I'm seeking to avert in the future. James (21 years ago, 21-Aug-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: .Space MOC/idea repository concept for discussion —Tim Courtney
(...) Hey James ... What about hosting it on classic-space.com? That is, if Jon and Chris are willing. Note that if you want a permanent host, you need to deal with issues such as bandwidth and server space -- unless you want to use BrickShelf for (...)          Re: .Space MOC/idea repository concept for discussion —James Wilson
(...) Thanks for the input, Tim. You've got me thinking about this more. I was thinking that the impetus would be on the builder to set up a place to store pics, then categorize their MOC, build links, and submit. So the pics would have to be (...)          Re: .Space MOC/idea repository concept for discussion —Matt Krotzer
(...) Couldn't we just set up a community accout for .space on Brickshelf? We could have a public password for it, couldn't we? Not to volunteer others for it, but maybe JP would be willing to use his email addy to register it, and from there, just (...) (21 years ago, 21-Aug-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: .Space MOC/idea repository concept for discussion —James Wilson
(...) In a perfect world, that would work fine. Unfortunately, every time I've worked with a "shared account" (and this is with people aged 30+ and 40+ using it) someone thought it would be "cute" to reset the password, or delete someone else's (...)         Re: .Space MOC/idea repository concept for discussion —David Laswell
(...) Am I the only one who sees the inherent flaw in this idea? If the links aren't permanently tied to the images through LUGNET, what makes you think they'll be any better on another website? The only way to guarantee that they are permanently (...) (21 years ago, 22-Aug-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: .Space MOC/idea repository concept for discussion —Curt Tigges
(...) I agree. What I think we need is a dedicated computer, with immense storage capability. Most websites have limits of the amount of MBs you take up, and if you've ever looked at how many Brickshelf galleries are LEGO space, you'd know how (...)          Re: .Space MOC/idea repository concept for discussion —James Wilson
(...) That's why my original idea was to have the pics hosted on Brickshelf, and the links page hosted here. (...) Perhaps "permanently available" is too much, then. But I think that "available as long as Brickshelf (or LUGNet) exists" is probably (...) (21 years ago, 22-Aug-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: .Space MOC/idea repository concept for discussion —Mike Petrucelli
(...) You don't keep backup copies?! I must be misinterpreting you here because I find it baffling that someone would not keep backup copies of their MOC pics. -Mike Petrucelli (21 years ago, 22-Aug-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: .Space MOC/idea repository concept for discussion —James Wilson
(...) I keep copies of everything. But, working in IT for over 15 years now, I find that I'm in the miniscule minority. "You mean you meant it when you said I should back up my stuff?" If only I had a nickel for every time I heard that... James (21 years ago, 22-Aug-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: .Space MOC/idea repository concept for discussion —David Laswell
(...) That still doesn't get around the fact that the artist might someday decide to remove all of his/her images from the Internet. It does, however, mean that they won't be able to do it without at least one interested person being notified so (...) (21 years ago, 23-Aug-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) This is great news! And, speaking of the Shipyard, it's one of the reasons I started thinking about this. Go to Space (URL) and try to follow the link to "the Galatic Shipyard is created."
