It would be capable of long range warp travel to star systems in our local
group. But it's part of a fleet, not a "stand alone" vessel the way the
Argo was in Starblazers. It cannot land and it has no shuttlecraft (I
didn't bother building escape pods this time either but I could easily add a
couple). So it needs support ships for the long haul but I'd say it could
operate for a month on it's own.

You have labeled the Dragonstar as a Destroyer -- assuming you're using the
term the same way the US Navy does, then it makes perfect sense that the
Dragonstar isn't out on its own.  The LSF most likely deploys three or four
Dragonstar-Class ships to escort a Gibraltar Task Force.  Round out the
number with a couple of supply ships, and larger warships, and you'd
essentially have an LSF equivilant of a Carrier Group.  Just a thought --
are all Dragonstars the same dark grey/yellow color combination?  If LSF had
only decided to build, say, five Dragonstar-Class ships (assuming the
Dragonstar is the class name, and not just the name of the lead ship), they
might have given them different color striping for easy identification in
battle: yellow, red, blue, green, white ...

I had an idea a long time ago for a multi-purpose LSF ship named the
"Indefatigable."  She was modeled after nuclear submarines in that she
carried giant missiles capable of imploding a star -- the idea was that the
LSF was engaged in "Mutually Assured Destruction" with, say, Blacktron.  In
addition to the missiles, the ship was also a fully equipped warship, and
carried a deployment of Marines, as well as a full crew.  I never got around
to building it, and my attention has since focused on the Okazaki.

Anyway, Dan, I love your ships.  I can't wait to see what you come up with
next!!!!

(...) Hopefully not at the same time. (...) You know, it would never have occured to me to do that, I would have spent hours trying to squeeze them in for little benefit. I can see much merit in you approach. Mentally noted should I ever build that (...) (21 years ago, 23-Apr-03, to lugnet.space)
