Dan, this....(sniff)...is so BEAUTIFUL...(tear rolls down cheek)...I need to
compose myself...
This is very very very very very very very very good! I will now use the
new dragonstar as the benchmark for military SHIPs.
Now, everyone, don't get me wrong...there are some other REEEEAAAALY good
SHIPs out there, but I really dig this one. The white interior is just
right in my mind, else I would have used tan (to tone down the sterile look
that was mentioned before). But, tan tile is more rare, and white gives it
a really cool Alien movie look on the inside, or Silent Running...yeah! The
reference to Buck Rogers was good too. We've been so keen on studless
exteriors, it's so refreshing to see near studless interiors for a change.
This, in my mind, pushes the envelope of realism.
The bridge was perfect. Not too much, not too little. Excellent thoughts
on the corridors from the bridge to the main deck (in vs. out
marking)...I've thought about that before). The canopies really open up the
available space. The GA is a nice token touch too.
The main deck: By far the best engine in terms of size so far. The engine
is nice and BIG...lots of mass there. Me like. The engine should be big.
Same goes for the wave motion gun. Realistically a spaceship would be
mostly engine and weapons and environmental control, etc. With automation,
the crew would be kept to a minimum. A crew of 10, max, makes sense. Did
you take time to make a captian's quarters, or are you taking the Alien
approach where everyone sleeps in the same area?
The airlocks are good. Needs a standard coupling system tho (one of the
several discussed).
The removal of almost all boxiness on the outside is absolutely 100% better.
And I think the exterior of the engine detail is more than enough. Any more
is overkill.
The missles, and mines are VERY good, although I would shield the mines
more. Obviously you have some sort of field shielding, or else one hit will
blow your engine or crew cabin right open. ;-) But that's ok...it's pretty
much a given for most SHIPs.
The droid fighters are actually a really good idea...they are used on
Andromeda, and that makes a lot of sense. the four guys in the science
stations on the bridge would be able to control the fighters, or they go
automatic.
I think I would like to see the bridge about 2-3 bricks closer to the main
hull. Easily done if you wanted too. Looks cool either way.
Most excellent! Let's see a medical version of this!
BTW, I would pay money to have this one in a display cabinet in my livingroom!

| (...) Heh! :) (...) Wow! (sniff) Now don't you get ME started! ;) (...) Thanks, Trev. I had mentioned earlier that this interior was inspired by the Discovery from "2001: A Space Odessey." Sterile, stark and futuristic looking. I figured the (...) (22 years ago, 25-Apr-03, to lugnet.space)
