Throwing one out to the .space peeps —Gil Shaw
Pardon the subject line....subjected to the the Amercian Music Awards the other night :) After catching up on some recently posted MOC's and marvelling at the fantastic shapes, scales, sizes, colours and details of our little corner of the Lego (...)      In lugnet.space, Gil Shaw writes: <snip some good comments> (...) Yes indeed. More specifically I think that building techniques shared by AFOLs have developed. Each of us had one or two techniques the others might not have thought of, and the (...) (21 years ago, 15-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

(...) You are forgiven. :-) (...) Actually, I'm ashamed to say I never owned a classic space set when I was a child. I was one of those castle people then, ya know. :-) (...) This is where it's strange (or maybe not so?) for me. I bought the sets (...) (21 years ago, 15-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

(...) The Horror!! (Jokes!) (...) A German term loosely meaning 'the spirit of the time.' I love using it when I can, even when it's not comfortably applicable :) (...) Me too! See my earlier post for the responses on your insights. Hope it keeps (...) (21 years ago, 16-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

Re: Throwing one out to the .space peeps —Brad Mittelstedt
(...) I would not call it a revolution as an evolution. Instead of thinking just "classic" space, people are now in the mentallity of "sci-fi". The concept of collecting a few moon rocks compared to galaxy conquest does not even compare. (...) Not (...) (21 years ago, 15-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

Re: Throwing one out to the .space peeps —John P. Henderson
(...) I would add that this ability to digitally store images of our MOCs also makes it less painful to dismantle them. Once a MOC has been well documented, the builder can feel more inclined to use its pieces for a newer design, because the first (...) (21 years ago, 15-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

Re: Throwing one out to the .space peeps —Nathan Wells
(...) Very true. Take me, for example: A few months ago I built a model I lamely named 'Rust Wing Fighter' The overall shape and color scheme was very crappy, but the wings of the craft were super cool. So I took pics and tore apart the model (...) (21 years ago, 16-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

Re: Throwing one out to the .space peeps —Matt Hein
(...) Heh, definitely! Before I downloaded a renderer or used a digicam, I constantly found it a burden to take apart my models, so I had to document them the *old fashioned way*, using pencil and paper... nice thing about that is that I don't need (...)      (...) Yes.... Nothing short of remarkable is how I would describe it. I would like to opine that this revolution has been seen in other themes, the state of the art has advanced in many of them. But I'm thinking that space is where it's most (...) (21 years ago, 16-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

Re: Throwing one out to the .space peeps —Gil Shaw
So many excellent points in the responses thus far. I hadn't even thought of the effect of digital photography, website software and CAD programs that help out those of us with smaller collections, allowing a cannon of work to be created and (...) (21 years ago, 16-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

Re: Throwing one out to the .space peeps —Allister McLaren
Boy there's been some interesting discussion here this week. I love delving deeper into the subject as well as merely admiring MOCs. Speaking as one who missed this revolution you speak, all I know is that between putting down Lego in 1982 and (...) (21 years ago, 16-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)
