An IR tower from Ebay is the best bet, indeed. Or buy from Pitsco. Then get yourself a copy of NQC (or MacNQC). That's what i've done. I've augmented my original Robotics Discovery Set with pieces from several Technic sets, several purchases from (...) (25 years ago, 5-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics.scout)

(...) I wouldn't say it's withering per say, it's more like it never really grew. It's whopping 400 bytes of user memory REALLY hampers it's abilities. (...) There isn't any way to clear the memory from MacNQC. It wouldn't be difficult to implement it - Scout support was added rather hastily and I didn't even think of tweaking the clear memory code (its trying to delete 10 tasks and 8 subroutines (...) I downloaded a simple program to my scout, but now i can't seem to figure out how to clear it's memory. I know how to clear the "presets" in the non-power mode, but that doesn't seem to work in power mode. I'm using MacNQC 2.2a3. It's "clear memory" (...) (...) Sorry Mate. But the Scout's firmware is Built in. It's can't be upgraded. And at 1k of RAM (the 2.0 Firmware is over 26K) it's not going to fit anyway. You need to get the Scout SDK, not the RCX. The Scouts firmware is almost the same as the (...) (26 years ago, 21-Oct-00, to lugnet.robotics.scout, lugnet.robotics.vc)
