An IR tower from Ebay is the best bet, indeed. Or buy from Pitsco. Then get
yourself a copy of NQC (or MacNQC). That's what i've done. I've augmented my
original Robotics Discovery Set with pieces from several Technic sets,
several purchases from Ebay (lots of great Mindstorms stuff there!) and a
couple of the RIS expansion sets (RoboSports and Extreme Creatures) that i
got for US$20 each at Best Buy.
So now i have a great set while i wait for the Robotics Invention System to
show up in local stores (it's just vanished! Can't find it anywhere right now!).
