  Bad Rcx's or bad ir

I believe that i have a dead rcx, or a problem w/ the ir transmitter (doubtfull). I have a Lego Mindstorms Robotics Invention System 1.5, and have succesfully installed the firmware using the cd given along with the set. But when i try to download (...)   RCX remote and Spybotics

Will the RCX remote control conflict with the IR signals from the Spybotics controller? I don't have a remote control, but I'd like to get one for my RCX so I can build my own style bot to compete with my kids, but I want to make sure my remote will (...)   Re: GP2D12 IR sensor RCX active sensor interface?

(...) Hi Gareth, I guess the three wire solution won't work. (Not tested it myself) The Sharp GP2D12 have a current consumption of about 35mA-50 mA (at 5V) !!!! Michael Gasperi mentioned that an input of the RCX only give about 15mA. ((URL) techno (...) (23 years ago, 8-Oct-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

IR to RF conversion for the RCX

Hi, As I was searching for ways to remove the "line-of-sight" problem with the RCX, I ran across this link: (URL) guys are building a complete RF module for the RCX. They are replacing the tower with a RS232-RF tower and they are also building a (...) (21 years ago, 8-Apr-04, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  GPS for RCX

The standard RCX firmware with its serial protocol could not talk to a GPS, but LegOS could. With LegOS and a GPS we could make robots that could tell where they were. This would be way cool. I want a solar powered toy robot boat with GPS that can (...) (25 years ago, 10-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

  IR download broken

I just tried my new IR remote for my RCX and it doesn't work at all. So then I tried downloading a program with NQC (which I have done for quite a while) and that doesn't work either, I just get "No response from RCX". What's going on, is my RCX (...)   Re: GP2D12 IR sensor RCX active sensor interface?

(...) Hi Gareth, maybe you don't need an external regulator ?!?! But, the specs also say that rating of supply voltage is "-0.3 to +7V". Do you know what happens to the sharp if supply voltage rises above +7V ??? (the mux has a supply voltage of +9V (...) (23 years ago, 9-Oct-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Hi all, It seems I missed this thread... (...) As suggested by Rainer, if you use an external battery everything is much simpler, you could even use a 4.5V battery to avoid regulator. (...) I don't think you can improve this circuit with a simple (...) (23 years ago, 10-Oct-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  "A cunning plan"

I am hoping someone has done some/all of this already...   Dead IR Tower

Well, after months of flaky IR comms between my tower and the RCX, I can finally say that the tower has died. :-( I've forgotten who first suggested it, but using a videocamera to see if the IR led is still functional is brilliant! duh... guess i was kinda wrong here.. FYI - I just noticed in the component specs from Sharp that the GP2D12 (and GP2D15 for that matter) have a built-in voltage regulator. See (URL) is an external regulator a necessary precaution? Just curious... - Gareth (23 years ago, 9-Oct-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

RE: good way to detect the proximity of the RCX?

Yes, that requires the RCX to receive. What I am looking for is a function which is much like the "is RCX in view" in the direct mode. This function allows the IR tower to detect any RCX in range, even the RCX is in in idle state, but just on, .... (...)
