Re: firmware & NQC - free?

This is my dilemma: I work for an organization that encourages schools to teach engineering through the RIS using NQC. I'm creating very detailed instructions on how to install NQC and using firmware, etc. Now since this is a package of information (...) (23 years ago, 13-Feb-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.nqc)

Do you need to do the "open the port and wait 5 seconds" procedure to get RIS, javax.comm, and nqc to work? Something BIOS or hardware-related (...)   Loading firmware

I am a newbie to RIS 1.0 and would like to install pbforth as my firmware and then use it as my command(programming) language. How do I get started. I have downloaded the Active State Tcl ,rcxtel, and nqc to my computer. Where do I go from here ? (...) (22 years ago, 2-Sep-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.pbforth)

I went more closely through a bunch of recent messages here, scanned a few more papers, and thought more about what Seymour Papert said in his talk, then culled what seemed like the core issues and wrote down a couple (...)   NQC beta test release policy

As this is my first post to this newsgroup, I thought I'd start by saying how wonderful I think nqc is etc. I got the RIS 1.5 for xmas and had nqc up and running in no time on my linux system. As well as being an excellent language and bytecode (...) (25 years ago, 6-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.nqc)

Re: baffled by a part in RIS 1.5

Don't punish yourself! At least you rendered the symbols from the gear correctly. There are at least four errors in the message I was responding to: (1) confusing the prefix n for nano with the unit symbol N for newton; (2) attaching two prefixes (...)   Turning off guided mode

I recently purchased a new system, and am reinstalling RIS. I hate the fact that I'm forced to go through guided mode, although I understand the rationale. I'm sure I saw a post here or somewhere on how to disable guided mode upon install. Can (...) (24 years ago, 2-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  newbie questions...

Hi everybody, I recently acquired a RIS 1.5 box and started playing with nqc (great program btw)... Still, I have some questions...   QuiteC IR interfacing to lego firmware IR

Hi, QuiteC's IR facilities are rudimentary. They send and receive single bytes. I need to be able to make it send and receive lego IR protocol messages for opcode 0xf7. I'm not having much luck. When I send a 0xf7 opcode with a message of 0x03 (...) (21 years ago, 3-Feb-04, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Spare parts for RIS1.5 ?

Dear all, My kids (I...) got the RIS 1.5 box (from me...) for Christmas. I am certain that a lot of the little pins, pegs, wheels, rubber bands etc. will be disappearing in the future with 3 kids and a couple of adults playing around. My question (...)   Re: Lightsensor

(...) Keep in mind a "dynamics range" of 10 units is just fine, if the variation is normally only a couple units. In other words, you can reliably determine when you are seeing a light or dark surface. Making sure that the sensor is close (5 mm or (...) (21 years ago, 4-Jan-04, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

(...) From what I can tell, support for h8300-hitachi-hms(/coff) was dropped from binutils after 2.16.1.   Re: Robolab, byte codes and assembler

The FIRST rules permit using different firmware implicitly, because they permit using RIS or Robolab, which requires different firmware. 3. (...)
