Help needed: Problems setting up the IR tower

I have changed my computer and it is imposible to get my IR tower up and running again. I have used my I tower with my old Pentium 233mmx/win95 with no problems at all (I have used the original lego software / NQC /WinlegOS). After changing my (...) (...) If I understand you correctly, you wish to use the IR port built into your laptop instead of the IR tower. To the best of my knowledge this is not possible. John Hansen (23 years ago, 12-Dec-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Use built-in Ir instead of IR-Tower?

(...) The IR protocol is slightly different. While IRDA only sends short pulses the Lego Tower sends a signal for the whole time slot. It is very unlikely that one can get them work together. Jochen (22 years ago, 30-Sep-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

  Re: IR Tower Use

If you're using Linux, see if Linux IR tools can chat with a tower -- or if some other RS-232 IR device can chat with a Lego device. I haven't had time to do such tests yet. (23 years ago, 30-May-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.robotics, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Two RCX with one IR-Tower

Hello, I want to control two RCX with one ir-tower. The problem is that the RCX should send back status information. Sending information to the RCX is quite easy: Both RCX receive the message but only one will perform the command. I found (...) (22 years ago, 11-Apr-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  IR Tower not responding

Hi there, Can someone please help? I've just installed LeJOS for Windows as instructed in (URL) However, when I call firmdl.bat, I get an error message which reads "Tower not Responding". I find this really odd because the IR tower blinks green when (...) (21 years ago, 11-Aug-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.java)

  Re: IR Tower Use

(...) Not really -- the tower uses its own proprietary communcations format. It's similar enough to that used by remote controls that learning remotes can pick up the signals, but I haven't heard of anyone going the other way around.   Re: Use PC's IR port instead of IR tower?

The basic difference between PCs/PalmPilots/WinCE IR ports and the RCX is a different physical transmission/modulation protocol. In the PC etc case the commonly used format is described by the IrDa standard (www.irda.org) where seperate IR pulses (...) (25 years ago, 12-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Well! A kind soul pointed me to: (URL) has a neat Winamp plugin that allows the program to be controlled by the serial port. Now I just need to convince the IR tower to play nice with others. The plugin tries to open Com 2 (where my tower's plugged (...) (25 years ago, 17-Feb-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

(...) This isn't true at all. The tower converts an RS-232 serial transmission directly into IR and vice-versa. It is a pretty standard protocol. -Kekoa (23 years ago, 26-May-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.robotics, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

I also figured out what COM3 was: the internal modem. I disabled it in Device Manager and now the only port that I can find in my C# app or in Hyperterminal is COM1, the serial port. But the IR tower is still not working. By the way, the built-in IR (...) (18 years ago, 10-Mar-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, FTX)
