Hi Pieter, I'll take a shot at it... It's possible you may be experiencing a transmission problem on the RCX side. That's not to say that your RCX can't transmit IR data correctly... obviously it can since you are able to download BrickOS and that (...) (22 years ago, 4-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

When I muck about with Exploration Mars software, the RCX doesn't go out of range until it's out of the room. With pbForth, the RCX receives the commands over just as far a range, but can only send its "ok" feedback when it is quite close to the (...) Hi, I'm just getting started using LNP, read the howto and tried to play around with the examples therein. However, somthing goes wrong. Hello I'm baaaack in this thread, and I'm now carrying my 1.5 serial IR/tower with me always, though not my RCX. Anybody yet have a theory to explain what's going on? (...) To check my tower, I tried substituting a Win XP desktop PC for my Win XP (...) (22 years ago, 5-Mar-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  USB2 and IR-Tower problem
 
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone here had experienced any problems using the IR-tower on a USB2 port? My university has just upgraded 20 of the pc's used for the Lego, the previous setup worked fine and the tower was attached to just a normal USB (...) Hi, folks. I've tried to connect to my RCX 1.0 (firmware 0328) from my laptop. Since I have only a serial IR tower, it works fine on my desktop PC, but communications won't work when I use a USB/serial converter to connect it to my laptop (there (...) (...) I'm pretty sure I know your problem to your number 2... The IR Tower has no protection against higher power. Running an unregulated power source into the IR tower is not a good idea! Use a 9v regulator package (The little 3 prong packages with (...) (23 years ago, 26-May-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

After I have done trouble-shooting for hours on my toshiba-laptop, the point of failure seems to be between the ir tower & the rcx...: - the ir tower did insteed install properly... I have verified with the device manager as well. - the (...) (21 years ago, 16-Oct-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.robolab)

PC: toshiba - P25 series model with four usb 2.0 ports, an bluetooth/wi-fi capability, w/ infrared port built in as well. OS: winXP Robolab : 2.5.2 machine: Toshiba Satellite-p25... coming with 4 usb ports and a IR port. Symptom: - usb tower driver installed fine. - I even verified with device manager that the lego usb tower did indeed install properly. Robolab (...) (...) Actually, there's a regulator on the Tower that takes the voltage for the digital side to +5 and keeps it there. The capacitor is only rated for 10V. I may be stepping out on a limb, but have you tried reformatting the laptop that doesn't work? What about using NQC or the original Lego software to test and make sure its not RoboLab in combination with your laptop that is causing errors. Ok, (...) (...) Andrew, I grabbed a ROM image awhile back using a serial tower and an RCX 1.0. I haven't tried this on a 2.0 brick, but I think the ROMware is identical in all RCX versions. Hi, Nathan, I truly suspect that the issue is the Toshiba hardware of this particular laptop model. I have 3 Dell desktops, 3 laptops. They all have built in usb ports, either 2.0 or 1.0. They all work fine, with the identical setup up, even with (...) (21 years ago, 19-Nov-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.robolab)

(...) BricxCC works with XP and both IR towers. The USB tower works with XP. You can get just the USB tower from Pitsco, but I do not know if you can get just the USB tower from LEGO. If you get the USB tower from Pitsco you will need to download (...) (21 years ago, 17-Feb-04, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)
