Further to the above:
Whilst the Run and Stop icons fail to interact with the RCX ~80% of the time
they always seem to work just after using the bricx remote!
(and this virtual remote has never failed in ~ 60 attempts).

Distance seems to have absolutely no influence on the failure rate.

In thirty odd attempts at downloading a program (at 8") it failed to find the
brick about 25% of time. After three or four attempts to find the brick the
program seems to download OK (having not moved the RCX) - The failures seem to
'cluster' but perhaps this is just expected statistical behaviour.

[The machine is a COMPAQ Pressario 3.2 Ghz 1GB DDR Ram, WinXP SP1]

probably no help.
