(...) I read the sheet as saying the MINIMUM load is 125K, and the block diagram indicates a buffered output. It would be a good idea to buffer the output, but may not be strictly necessary. Here's the link to the pyro sensor (URL) The schematic indicates that the reference moves relative to the output... I think the reference and output terminals are mislabelled. Yes it is slow, if you count 1/2 a second slow, but not horrible. The big problem comes with control. Finding neutral again. NQC to the rescue. You mean you use the red motor/switch combination as a sort of 'electronic' fuse? Oh, right. While I'm typing I suddenly see what you mean. You use an external power supply for the motors. Clever. Isn't the switching a little slow using the (...) (25 years ago, 5-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

The best way to avoid high current running thru the brick is to control a small red motor which drives one of the polarity switches which is hooked up to a battery pack and that in turn runs the main motors. We had this problem at the LEGO (...) (25 years ago, 5-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

MJ, The RCX itself does not need a lot of power. However, if you're going to run 2 motors off each output port (a total of 6), 200 mA won't be enough. I expect the motors to draw at least 100 mA each. Even more when stalled. Maximum power to be (...) (25 years ago, 5-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Woaw ! This could be great to have a full featured rcx expansion board... It should however be not too expensive, and in my opinion very basic to allow anything to be made. (...) Yes, you are correct - 11 bits total per byte. And yes, this is very non-standard. I believe the signal is inverted - meaning that IR light is present for "0" bits, and no light for "1" bits. hiya, I have been working on an idea to extend the number and type of devices that the RCX can control. I started with the idea of encoding serial data on one of the motor lines and decoding that in a PIC to do <stuff>. However, because working at (...) take a look at Ray's Robotic Computer. i have a url somewhere. This dude makes a 68HC11 mini board in modules from his basement. Completely assembled and tested versions too.
