  Re: Non-polaroid Sonar

Thanks for your help :-D Just so I'm clear, ref pink book page 10-17. Does the "bit_set( 0x1021, 1 );" refer to bit 0 -EDG3B, and bit_clear( 0x1021, 2 ); " refer to bit 1 -EDG3A. This is what was throwing me, I always thought bits started at zero (...) (25 years ago, 16-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: windows nt and handyboard

I am also using the icwin from newton labs and that works fine also. Although I have not tried it under win2k, which I must do soon. --peter (...) (25 years ago, 16-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Overcharge Battery

Im going to jump in here on this one and give an opinion. C/10 for a NiCd is a little much for a trickle charge. C/10 on NiCd's is usually considered more of a trimming type of charge following a higher charge rate of C or C/2 to put the bulk of the (...)   Re: windows nt and handyboard

(...) Actually I am working with Linux, but I gave it a try and it worked just fine. I tested with MS Windows NT Workstation 4.0 Service Pack 5. Just open a command prompt and use this ic-version.   Polaroid setup w/ exp board...

Hello, I am trying to setup the 6500 polaroid sonar package, but am having a little difficulty. I've soldered a .1uF cap (electrolytic) into the C7 space on the ranging board, connected a 22g wire from J12 to input 7, etc., etc. My problem is in (...)   windows nt and handyboard

Hi, Please, someone that is working with the handyboard and windows nt can tell me if do you have any problem in communicating the serial port with the handyboard? Do you think that the handyboard could be connected by serial port with windows nt? (...) (25 years ago, 16-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Overcharged battery?

(...) OK, this is good to know. (...) Yes, *if* more drop is necessary, more rectifier diodes would be called for (i.e. relatively fixed voltage drop), not a series resistor (v=iR). (...) I didn't have any 5watt resistors handy, so I put a pretty (...) (25 years ago, 15-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Overcharged battery?

(...) Hi Fred, I don't claim to be an expert on these, but what I have read leads me to believe that this may damage the cells if left on too long. For common NiCds (800mah AA' for instance) C/10 should really be considered a fast charge and not a (...) (25 years ago, 15-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: problem with sonar

A 470 microfarad electrolytic capacitor across the power leads to the sonar board will probably fix your problem. You can get a lot of current really fast out of one of those things. I remember charging them up and tossing them to one of my friends (...) (25 years ago, 15-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  problem with sonar

Hi.. I have a problem with ultrasonic sonar power supply, hope anyone can help me.. thanks.. I run my sonar well with the exp. board using transformer, but i failed to run it together with 2 sharp GP2D02 IR, i think may due to 2.5A surge of the (...)   Re: Hitachi LM052-L

Jan, Do you have the expansion board? If so, have you tried removing it and seeing if the display works on the Handy Board by itself? What makes you think the display is damaged? What are the symptoms? Does IC still work, even though the display is (...) (25 years ago, 15-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Hitachi LM052-L

Hello, my Hitachi LM052-L display is damaged. Does anybody know where to buy a new one or equivalent in Europe ? Or how to test which part is damaged of the handyboard display system or the display itself ? Thank You ! Jan Luijk Netherlands (25 years ago, 15-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Q: 10 dc motors on handyboard?

Does anyone know if handyboard can run more than four dc-motors? I want to be able to control a complex lego construction, with full control of all motors at once. The current flow shouldn't be to dramatic, I hope. I would also like to ask how it is (...) (25 years ago, 15-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Overcharged battery?

hi dennis, well, it's just a plain C/10 charge circuit. but i was under the impression that nicad's aren't damaged by that. it's possible i'm wrong :-). any other battery experts out there? fred In your message you said: (...) ly (...) ut (...)   Re: Overcharged battery?

(...) I was guessing here - most chargers don't check for peak charge, since I didn't know if the Handiboard charger did or didn't... If the charger has a trickle charge of more than C/50 or C/100 then NiCds will be damaged eventually on a long-term (...) (25 years ago, 15-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Vector 2X driver

I just bought a Vector 2X electronic compass for a project. In looking at it the manual, I see that if the 2X is run in slave mode I can clock out data from it at my leisure using any digital pins available on the Handy Board. This could almost be (...)   Re: Overcharged battery?

no i disagree with this answer. the HB is designed to be left on normal charge indefinitely. the batts can get a little warm. if they are hot then something is wrong, but a little warm is nothing to worry about. when fully charged and with no load (...)   Re: Non-polaroid Sonar

In the sonar code from the web site, the rising edge detection on timer input channel 3 (TIC3) is set like this: bit_clear( 0x1021, 2 ); bit_set( 0x1021, 1 ); According to the little pink book, address 0x1021 is the Timer Control Register 2 (TCTL2) (...)   Re: Overcharged battery?

(...) Ouch. You don't want to do that too much or you will torch (may have torched) your NiCds. NiCds do NOT like to be overcharged, it causes a problem called Voltage depression that many mistakenly call "memory effect". [snip] (...) Servos will (...)   Re: Overcharged battery?

actually this is to be expected. with no load, the diodes produce no drop. if you're worried, try hooking a DC motor (or other real load -- light bulb, 10 ohm resistor, etc). across the servo motor supply and then measure the voltage. you should see (...)
