Re: large # of digital I/O's

Hi Fred The "new" spec sound's great ! I'd also like to see a bit more digital I/O on any expansion board, and the extra 8 CMOS outputs are just what I (we) need. Thanks Scott (...) Martin'" <fredm@media.mit.edu> (...) (28 years ago, 10-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  L293D Piggybacking

My question is, can I piggyback the L293D's and what will this increase my max current output to? I am going to just one motor from port 0 and the other from port 3 so as possibly eleminate smoking any more 293's. What do you think? Bill Rose Fort (...)   Not enough Servo ports on Expansion board

Hello, Iwould suggest increasing the available servo ports on this. Servos are widely available, getting cheaper, and compact for robotics. This could have been facilitated on the original Handy board, but nevermind. I'm already using my method on (...) (28 years ago, 9-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

HB does not enter on bootstrap mode

I followed step 4.4 in the HB assembly manual. I hold down STOP-SW while powering on the board, then the battery LED light for 1/3 s, but the power light does not go OFF. I have checked that the MODA signal and the RESET are present at the 68HC11, (...) (28 years ago, 8-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Sean, Using two of the SPI port pins, and a MUX and DEMUX, you should be able to gang together four of the Polaroid ultrasonic sensors. See if the code below makes sense. I wrote it a while ago, when I wanted more Polaroids, but - I didn't actually (...) (28 years ago, 8-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: expansion board/multiple sonar

It's actually a '374 or '373 for outputs. I guess you could use them for inputs too, but you're better off using a '244 for input. Or even a '574, '573, '541, these chips put inputs on one side and outputs on the other. Very convenient. Even (...) (28 years ago, 8-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: expansion board schematic posted

(...) I would love to see more digital outputs put on the expansion board. Just out of curiosity, is the Poloroid sonar connection still going to be on the board. That is what I am waiting for most of all. Keith (28 years ago, 8-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  To Add my 2.5 cents

I think the expansion board is A-OK as it is. (I'm being rather selfish since the Hartford Firefighting contest is in April). -Jim (28 years ago, 8-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  large # of digital I/O's

Check out the 82C55. In a 40 pin package, it has 24 bits of digital bidirectional I/O, and can be bit- or byte- addressed. It's cheap (like $4 or so in quantity). The 40-pin DIP package is big, but not compared to 3 20-pin DIP packages which it can (...) (28 years ago, 8-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  FW: I agree-

Servos outputs are good, but generic handyboard serial output to Scott Edward's Serial Servo Controller would be faster to implement and design, much and simpler to work with, and would be extensible to other serial projects too. (...) (28 years ago, 8-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

I'd agree with this option - I don't need any more inputs, but I do need 4 logical outputs 2-4 Hi-current outputs Serial communications 1 (preferably 2) sonar connectors I could really use that second sonar. I don't suppose there is a way you could (...) (28 years ago, 8-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

While I've only been working with the Handy Board for a week or so, I would also like to see several more outputs added.   IC development

Hi Everyone, We (Digital Micro Systems) have an expansion board which we've been beta-testing for a while, but have not released yet.
