Oops, I screwed two of those up. I should have said "1:1.67" and "1.67:1"
ratios, in place of "1:1.4" and "1.4:1".

In lugnet.robotics, Robert Munafo writes:
8 <-> 24       1:3 ratio
12 <-> 20     1:1.4 ratio
16 <-> 16     1:1 ratio
20 <-> 12     1.4:1 ratio
24 <-> 8       3:1 ratio

(...) That makes sense. With the two new sizes you end up with five different ratios that can be constructed with two gears at a 2-stud (16 millimeter) axle spacing: 8 <-> 24 1:3 ratio 12 <-> 20 1:1.4 ratio 16 <-> 16 1:1 ratio 20 <-> 12 1.4:1 ratio (...)
