First, I don't have the time to participate right now, since I have a daytime job and LEGO is only for weekends and holidays, but I'd like to participate somehow! q:-)
How long did you say was the time limit to build this bot?

Second, I don't have a RIS - I have a CyberMaster.
The current rules simply rule out my bot, and even if you are willing to change the rules to include me, I don't think I'll finish it on time for anything. Most probably I will only be able to start in a week or two.

Anyway, if these events continue I'd like to participate sooner or latter, so if you are willing to change the rules ;-), here are some things you should take into account because CyberMaster is more limited than RIS:
- Two of the motors are integrated, and because of their position which is intended for wheels/tracks and difficult to use for other purpose other than that, we should be able to use the third motor without loosing points.
- The memory is very limited. It's not enough to make anything smart enough to find a can, grab it, and return to the starting place. We should be able to use the PC to assist the brick since I cannot fit such a program in memory.
- I don't have the light sensor, but instead I should be able to use the 3 bundled touch sensors and the tachometers to find our way.
- The CyberMaster set does not have the same set of parts the MindStorms has. We don't even have a worm gear or even a differential!
- And I'll make up more rules as soon as I start... ;-)

I think the most difficult part for RIS going to be to return to the starting place with the can (Humm... maybe not), while in the CyberMaster the most difficult part is probably finding the can and manage to make anything useful out of the parts we have.

I need some clarification on these rules (even if I cannot participate):
- Is the can empty or filled? (half filled?) If empty, the can is so light I will not be able to detect it with touch sensors...
- For RIS: Is there any markings on the floor so a light sensor knows where is the starting point?

(...) It isn't! That's the real challenge!! :-) (...) I don't know if you intend to use the standard firmware, but in the CyberMaster I don't even have that choice. The CyberMaster and the PC were made to work as one. For one thing, without floating (...) (25 years ago, 24-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics.events, lugnet.robotics)

(...) Yes! Forget the limitation rules, or at least make the limits on the number of parts a lot higher. To build a bot to meets that challenge is already difficult enough, don't make it even more difficult or very few people will ever make it to (...) (25 years ago, 23-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)
