To add some further information,

I popped the unit open last night and observed that, as I had hoped,
mechanically the unit should be capable of operating correctly. Each motor
channel has a mouse style slotted wheel and sensor, so the firmware should be
able to create closed loop control of motor shaft angle and speed!

I also noted that the CPU is on a little daughter board, so it may be an easier
hack than I had thought to replace it by a PIC or something. Also noted that
there is external access to the CPU via six little probe holes in the battery
compartment.

I also noted the disturbing look of "Chinese style" construction. Wires draped
all over the inside secured with hot glue. Doesn't look up to TLC's usual
fabrication quality - much more like cheap Chinese toy manufacturing standards
to me.

Hi all, I'm a lurker/newbie. I'm wanting to build a controlled platform that can move and rotate (sort of like a turtle using LOGO). I'd like this platform to carry my E-10 camera (weighs 37 oz./1048 grams). Can anything using the RCX/mindstorms (...) (21 years ago, 12-Nov-03, to lugnet.robotics)

G'day Gahlord, Just outof interest, as an experiment with my science class, we easily towed 30kg (66pounds) on a trolly, using a robot with two motors, 8 tooth gear driving a 40 tooth gear. Traction was the limiting factor, with tyres slipping - the (...) (21 years ago, 14-Nov-03, to lugnet.robotics)

I had to buy this set just to see. Total disappointment :( Nice idea, dreadful implementation. The motor/battery box clearly tries to record the rotation of each of two wheels in "record" mode, and I think it actually manages to do that part ok. The (...)
