I agree too that the record and play unit is not up to the task, even if models
look fine and colorful - this is the case of all inventor sets, the shapes and
color schemes are really attractive.
My expectations were not too high for the control unit, difficult (impossible !)
to get reliable movement with open loop control. But I was disappointed by the
playback function, the control is really bad. It seems especially that not
enough power is transmitted to the motors (or they are too weak). I built the
plotter model, trying to draw a square was a real challenge, as the motors
struggled to move the paper and pencil.
As a record-and-play unit, the old Control Center was MUCH better (but it didn't
try to provide speed control).

PS: I played a lot with motors and gear reductors in inventors set, and I had no
silicon grease leaks...

| I had to buy this set just to see. Total disappointment :( Nice idea, dreadful implementation. The motor/battery box clearly tries to record the rotation of each of two wheels in "record" mode, and I think it actually manages to do that part ok. The (...)
