  LEGO capacitor cares about polarity

I found some information about the LEGO capacitor that might help close this discussion at (URL) Characteristics - 1 Farad @ 2.5 Volts Capacity or about 3.125 joules - Operating voltage 2.5 Volts normal, 4 Volts Charging Max. - 250 mA Maximum (...) (24 years ago, 30-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  RE: Ideas for new sets?

(...) While it's true that Dacta products aren't exactly readily available to the average consumer at the local mall, you can easily mail-order them. The catalog is on-line at (URL) are a few mail-order places in the US that carry the Dacta. I have (...) (24 years ago, 30-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Ideas for new sets?

(...) Don't forget the selling of Lego Technic to George Lucas! I agree the Dacta Catalog is repleat with wonderful kits that are unavailable to the consumer. The solar kit is one of the most fascinating and would be a wonderful way for children and (...) (24 years ago, 30-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Shutting off illumination LED on Light Sensor for LIDAR

(...) Thanks. I had seen this technique (and noticed this effect myself) but had heard rumor that this impaired the sensitivity of the detector. I'm going to try some rigorous tests and see if I can verify this. (...) We almost needa Yahoo-style (...) (24 years ago, 30-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Ideas for new sets?

(...) Basically what you're asking is, "Why has LEGO completely lost their mind?". I think the "Technic concept" is still valid. I think it's just being re-marketed under the Mindstorms product line. Who knows what LEGO was thinking when they came (...) (24 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Shutting off illumination LED on Light Sensor for LIDAR

(...) That's not a legOS feature. You just set the input port to passive mode, and read it in RAW mode. There is an example in NQC at (URL) (I forgot to add the address in my previous post :-). (...) You can find light sensor schematics on Michael (...) (24 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Ideas for new sets?

I have a very basic question, on the subject of new sets and themes and so on; If technic "was" a viable medium for kids with latent engineering skills to learn with, why are those kinds of sets not still available? If Lego were selling to the same (...) (24 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Shutting off illumination LED on Light Sensor for LIDAR

(...) Thanks for all the tips, everybody. I set out last night to open up my light sensor and add a jumper to allow me to take the LED out of the circuit. I was unsuccessful in getting the casing open, even after cutting the underside latching tabs (...) (24 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: lego cap, polarity, etc

(...) <snip> The polarity markings Andy Gombos was referring to are printed on the LEGO-compatible package itself. The LEGO "capacitor" is in fact an electrolytic cap with plenty of support circuitry, and I assure you there is no danger of blowing (...) (24 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Shutting off illumination LED on Light Sensor for LIDAR

I drilled a hole in a 1x2 brick to give the light sensor a better sense of direction and to block the LED. The goal was to have the light sensor seek an IR beacon. (...) (24 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)
