  New WebBrick 1.5

I have improved WebBrick's error checking. Some people have complained that it crashes sometimes, and hopefully the new error checking will find any problems. WebBrick is a simple tool for connecting your RCX to the web. You don't need to do any (...) (25 years ago, 1-Feb-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Building a computer from Lego's

(...) Nonsense. I quote: "No general-purpose computer is complete without a memory. The memory of the Apraphulian computer consisted of hundreds of special storage elements we would call flip-flops. Here again the remarkable simplicity of the (...) (25 years ago, 1-Feb-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Building a computer from Lego's

(...) Now you've gone and ruined it...<sigh>....I guess there has to be one in every class; but for the rest of you, please suspend disbelief and know that the machine described is still a very, very valid description of a digital computer, albeit (...)   Re: Building a computer from Lego's

I took a look at the Dewdney article, and I agree, it is a quasi-digital device, but not a general-purpose computer at all. I have been working on a "universal Turing machine" made from Lego technics parts, but I am cheating and using an RCX for the (...) (25 years ago, 1-Feb-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Fw: Saw RCX brick at Goodwill

(...) Hi chrisb, I would recommend Dave Baums NQC (Not Quite C) for you as a rookie ;-) You can find it here : (URL) if you're living in a windows world you can use the RCXCC (RXC Command Center ; don't know who's responsible for this :( ) located (...) (...) Hrm. Apraphulians sounds a lot like April-Fool-ians.... Are you sure this is real? Ah-ha. See: (URL) idea though. -Kekoa (25 years ago, 31-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Fw: Saw RCX brick at Goodwill

ok, you convinced me. i went at lunch and bought it. looks like everything is there but the CD. it's a Robotics Invention System 1.5 now i wished i'd paid attention to your discussions about what software to program it with. (...) while (...) it (...) (25 years ago, 31-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Ralph, I'd love to try using servos sometime; but until I can find a practical way to get more than two positions, I think I'm going to have to stick to using (...)   Re: Saw RCX brick at Goodwill

(...) Worse than that - Lego represents a choking hazard to 3yr olds - you can't possibly use it! Duplo for you for another year or two! ...I'll give you $35. :-) (25 years ago, 31-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  [Fwd: [agenda-dev] IrDA port]

I saw this post on the Agenda PDA mailing list. (The Agenda is a palmtop Linux computer that has *both* CIR and IRDA ports - and thus might be *IDEAL* for controlling Lego RCX/Scout machines without the Lego IR tower or any other external hardware).   TLG support

(...) I've seen this kind of messages many times and I have to ask something: Is this LEGO worldwide common practice, or it just happens in North America ? ok, I know, I can always ask them by email, but they take a long time to reply. Thxs for any (...) (25 years ago, 31-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Saw RCX brick at Goodwill

(...) It doesn't matter if the brick is dead; You can call up lego and say "Hey, my brick is dead!" and they'll send you another; They may or may not ask for the old one back. (25 years ago, 31-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Saw RCX brick at Goodwill

Well, to save you worrying, why not just go buy it for $30 and I'll send you the $30 + cost of postage and you can forward it to me. I'm sure I could get $30 value out of it. I don't think the average 3 year old would have a lot of use for it (...) (25 years ago, 31-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Saw RCX brick at Goodwill

Hey all, i'm a casual follower of the list and only hit the leggos once in a while with my three yr old. But this weekend was in Goodwill and saw a box, blue lightening bolts, etc...(can't remember what product name was on it....argh..maybe (...) (25 years ago, 31-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  RE: ABB irb340 PickMaster

  New Site

Hi all, I have revamped my website. New look and feel. In the following weeks I will be posting pics and info for each stage of my Cyber Clinger - 2 RCX's, 1 Scout and a lot of sensors... The robot will be modeled after the Lego version "Robo goes (...) (25 years ago, 31-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: CM-RCX comm (Anyone using Scout->MicroScout/CodePilot ?)

(...) Yes, I understand. Lego created VLL for barcode reading (CodePilot, and then MicroScout). Barcode reading is error prone, so are other forms of serial communication. Through the use of the VLL Checksum bits and timeouts, one can invalidate bad (...) (25 years ago, 31-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Building a computer from Lego's

(...) Good enough for me-- after all, any combinational logic construct (gates, but no registers/flip flops) can be represented as a ROM, and this is often done in practice. I can't imagine saying that just because one didn't represent it the other (...) (25 years ago, 31-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.general)

  Re: CM-RCX comm

(...) Well, yes - but then crystal oscillators are quite accurate (but crucially, not 100% accurate). You might have to run as long as one or two MILLION attempts before you see an error - but you *will* see an error if you do it for long enough. If (...)
