It came out too easily to be the first

For what is worth, My original intention was indeed to thank Mario for the complimentary copy of his book by creating a new robot inspired by it. Once I came up with a "new" type of robot, a secondary intention was to promote further investigation (...) (23 years ago, 13-Feb-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Power to RCX

(...) Putting a regulator in front of the motor controllers would be utter nonsense IMHO. (...) Plus the data sheet of the motor controllers. Jürgen (23 years ago, 13-Feb-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Re: power source

hi! (...) if you use an unregulated supply, you need to add a big capacitator in front of the ic (after rectifing of course)! generally, they advice to use an electrolyt capacitator of sufficient size (there are formulas for this) for filtering and (...)   Re: RFC: Creation of Version 0.2.6

(...) Excuse my ranting, but... Bricx-anything doesn't appeal to me (1); I'm not fond of the "cx" pronounced at the end. Why not "Brick" or "Brix" instead? BrixCC and BrixOS work, as do BrickCC and BrickOS. Ian (1) I dunno why; but it's a (...) (23 years ago, 13-Feb-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

(...) Then that author is incorrect. There were Lego based jumping robots at several of the Robofests put on here in Austin back in the early half of the 90's. At least one of them was built along the lines of 'Spring Turkey'. They used the old (...) (23 years ago, 13-Feb-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: power source

You're right, I didn't realise it wasn't very clear. What you do is you connect the positive wire from your power supply to pin 1* of the 7809. Then connect the ground of the RCX and the power supply to pin 2. Connect pin 3 to the positive battery (...) (23 years ago, 13-Feb-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  Direct Wiring PC and RCX

Re: RFC: Creation of Version 0.2.6

(...) You could also try BricxOS (in a similar fashion to BricxCC), which also happens to have RCX in it. Martin (23 years ago, 12-Feb-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

I'm sorry, I can't really make out that photo. Do I just connect the 7809 ic between the power supply and the rcx? Do I connect to the + or - or use 2 and connect to both? thanks -----Original Message----- From: news-gateway@lugnet.com (...) (23 years ago, 12-Feb-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  Introducing Jump-O-Bot

Dear all, One of the unsolved challenges posed by the authors of the very fine "Building Robots with Lego Mindstorms" is to construct a robot that propels itself jumping, rather than walking on legs or rolling on wheels.   Re: power source

This was just discussed on lugnet.robotics.rcx. I have an rcx 2.0, and you can see what I did here: (URL) used a 7809 voltage regulator. Note that this requires some basic electronics and soldering skills. I would not use a wall wart, because the (...) (23 years ago, 12-Feb-02, to lugnet.robotics)
