Thanks. This helps clarify things about the motor features alot. I was looking into transistors for the first time. I was wondering if you can connect the L293D output to the base of a high current transistor. ...and the collector and emmiter in (...) (29 years ago, 29-Mar-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

(...) Actually, none of the default functions in pcode_hb.s19 actually use the IR transmit line -- you have to load in someone's ir transmit icb file. so that line is completely up for grabs. mike, it shouldn't be too ahrd to work from Randy's (...) Another Q or 2 about using the servo capabilities of the handy board. It has been established that the servo motor output is actually digital output 9 (J2-9) (position numbered 15 (on the silk screen) of connector J2) 1) Is there a separate (...) (...) no,this is wrong. The servo output is J2 - 9, not J2 - 15. (...) you need a 5 volt source to power the servo. The Handy Board 5 volt supply can be used, but this will put a lot of stress on the system regulator. It would be better to get a (...) (29 years ago, 30-Mar-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Note that the spec sheet for the L293D states that the package can only dissipate 5 watts. With a voltage drop of 1.3 volts that is 3.85 amps total through all drivers. However, since that is the absolute maximum rating your probably looking more (...) (29 years ago, 30-Mar-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Today I ran out to Toys 'R' Us and bought a wired-remote controlled excavator to serve as the base for my HandyBoard. It seems to be causing me a little problem, though. Before I removed it from the controller that contained the battery (...) (29 years ago, 1-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

The problem you're running into is that R/C motors just draw too much current for 293's. (If you look at the controller (...) (29 years ago, 1-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
