Re: NELUG at Mindfest update (Good News on our Table Space!!)

If you can bring a FEW straights (say 6 or 8) that would be a good thing... I will try to be there as soon as I can, dunno about 3 but will try. Got a full plate tomorrow.   Re: Books

(...) My book isn't out yet, but its getting pretty close. From what I've seen, its clear that Jonathan and I took very different approaches to writing about Mindstorms. Jonathan covers a number of advanced topics (such as pbFORTH) that I don't (...) (26 years ago, 22-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Analog port shaft encoder

Hi, I am having great difficulty trying to get my shaft encoder to work using both sencdr3.icb or fencdr3.icb driver. I am using the QRB1114 optical sensor connected to analog port 3 with a current limiting resistor of 330 ohms for the emmiter and (...) (26 years ago, 22-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  RE: Scout brick and IR

Yes, it has an IR port, usable from the front and top. I don't know how you would get to it programmatically, with the current "OS" firmware being burned in to ROM, and not modifiable yet (at least by me...) Jeff jeffrey.hazen@northmill.net (...) (26 years ago, 22-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Double echo

Hi Ralph, I just tried out to remove all EMITs from ACCEPT word, in order to eliminate back echo from RCX. It works good: less Frame Errors and Break Interrupts from comm port during the session. And you can use "normal" terminal program, like (...) (26 years ago, 22-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.pbforth)

  Re: Need Balls!

(...) Don't know if this will help in any way. I happen to have a Pisco-Dacta catalog in front of me (gonna put in an order) and under Tools and Supplies, they have some sponge balls.   A load of balls

I must have mailed my previous comment to the wrong return address. What the message said was that most craft stores carry a load of different sizes and materials of balls. I've used them for other robotics testing like pick and place. Try to ignore (...) (26 years ago, 22-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: A load of balls

I checked out the Nerf balls that are about the same size as the LEGO ones, but they are much denser and harder. I was surprised. They probably shoot much better than the super light foam ones, though. I got a wicked pile of Ping Pong balls that are (...) (26 years ago, 23-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Analog port shaft encoder

Rob, Another suggestion for debuging your setup would be to write a program which; 1, anually counts the pulses from the encoder, and writes them to the lcd screen; or 2, Just writes the state of the encoder input to the screen (a 1 or 0). Then you (...) (26 years ago, 23-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
