  Re: taking good photos

(...) I think that's changing. I've seen explicit aperture settings on $400 consumer-grade digital cameras. (...) Every digital camera has the capability to do multiple apertures -- the trick is coaxing the camera into doing what you want if there (...) (23 years ago, 21-May-03, to lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: taking good photos

(...) That's if he wants the very closest spot to be in perfect focus. :-) If he can shoot with a small aperture, then he should be able to get as close as 1.8 ft -- or closer. It all depends where in the model the lens is focused. Also, just (...) (23 years ago, 21-May-03, to lugnet.space, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: taking good photos

(...) I don't think that's quite correct. If your CCD or CMOS chip has greater than 8 bits of depth on each spectral band (most do), then an on-camera digital zoom should contain more information than a post-processed zoom. For example, suppose you (...) (23 years ago, 21-May-03, to lugnet.space, lugnet.publish.photography)

(...) The GIMP is totally free and I think it should be useable for this kind of thing. (23 years ago, 21-May-03, to lugnet.space, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: taking good photos

(...) Not that I'm aware of. Well, unless you want to use a trial version of regular software, but that will expire after a month, usually. (...) When I got my digital camera, I spent an entire Saturday and about 500 discarded shots figuring out (...) (23 years ago, 21-May-03, to lugnet.space, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: taking good photos

(...) Hi. I live in western Michigan. I also run a popular website. I can't afford to wait six months for a perfect day. I think I'll keep shooting indoors... ;P (...) I've got manually adjustable shutter speed (I think that's what it is, since it (...) (23 years ago, 21-May-03, to lugnet.space, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: taking good photos

(...) I don't know exactly how much mine is, but it's somewhere close to 3 inches. Either way, the camera usually obstructs enough of the light to prevent the autofocus from kicking in well before the camera gets too close to focus. (...) Alright, (...)   Re: taking good photos

Thanks to all for your input! I can't retake my earlier photos of my capital ship but future posts should look alot better. I didn't anything about photography before this. Thanks again :-) (...) (23 years ago, 21-May-03, to lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: taking good photos

I've got the tripod and the extra light available. I'm stuck though on the software for modifying the photos. Any shareware out there? Nice picture by the way. That's how I want mine to look... Thanks for the insight. Wow, what a novice I am. I (...) (23 years ago, 21-May-03, to lugnet.space, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: taking good photos

(...) True, it's hard to get a perfect day, especially if you don't have time to take pictures while it's light out. It's also more difficult to set up a backdrop or the perfect view angle. I usually take my photos indoors too, but then again my (...) (23 years ago, 20-May-03, to lugnet.space, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: taking good photos

(...) I agree, reducing the image size should always result in a sharper image, where cropping will not change the sharpness. I more meant that one reason I find myself getting too close to the subject is that I am trying to frame the shot to (...) (23 years ago, 20-May-03, to lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: taking good photos

(...) I've found that with properly arranged directional lighting, I can get very rich, colorful photos with excellent overall illumination. Outdoors gets tricky because sunny days will create stark shadows while overcast days will cause lots of (...) (23 years ago, 20-May-03, to lugnet.space, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: taking good photos

(...) This really depends on the camera. Mine, for example, has a focus range of 2.0 cm to infinity, and a manual focus if the auto focus isn't doing its job. Also, in order to get a greater depth of field, you should reduce the aperture (increase (...) (23 years ago, 20-May-03, to lugnet.publish.photography)

I would certainly be there for something like this, but my priority at the two above. (...) Very cool. (...) (23 years ago, 25-Apr-03, to lugnet.events.brickfest, lugnet.publish.photography)

In lugnet.events.brickfest, Todd Lehman writes: <snip many great ideas> Generally, I think this is great! The community could use a good training course in photography, myself included.   Re: LEGO photo exhibit / photography seminars

(...) All of these is something the community needs! Perhaps a freeware image editor could also be demonstrated to help people crop their images to size etc.. As one who can't make it this year, or any next five years due to budget/distance, I would (...) (23 years ago, 25-Apr-03, to lugnet.events.brickfest, lugnet.publish.photography)

Re: LEGO photo exhibit / photography seminars

(...) That is a GREAT idea Todd! I for one would LOVE to see more detailed photos of creations like Henry's harpsichord, etc!!! I found myself wanting to see more and more when visiting his site. It'd be great to see some of your pro shots too! (...) (23 years ago, 25-Apr-03, to lugnet.events.brickfest, lugnet.publish.photography)

Re: LEGO photo exhibit / photography seminars

Todd, I think these are all great ideas. I was actually thinking of suggesting something along the lines of what Eric has suggested in this thread (a photo station). I'd be willing to help work on this, and should have the equipment necessary to (...) (23 years ago, 25-Apr-03, to lugnet.events.brickfest, lugnet.publish.photography)

Re: LEGO photo exhibit / photography seminars

I'm interested. In fact, I had an idea to share. I thought it would be cool to have a "MOC Stop" Folks wishing to have their MOCs photographed could stop by. We make a set up with a table, some background paper, lighting and a good Camera on a (...) (23 years ago, 24-Apr-03, to lugnet.events.brickfest, lugnet.publish.photography)
