I have all of my Lego content at http://www.vfaq.org, which is hosted by
DixieSys.  I pay a whopping $4/mo for my space/BW.  I managed to get in on a
2-for-1 sale, so I have 6Gigs/mo for that $4.  Registering vfaq.org cost me less
than $20.

You can easily create a domain and have some decent BW for less than $80 for the
entire year with a little research.

I wonder how much bandwidth would be freed up if BrickShelf
prevented off-site linking?

Well, I for one would abandon BS if this happened, unless links from LUGNET
pages were allowed (and I'd probably remove my LUGNET pages too, as they'd
be even more boring without the BS pics).

I think I'd have to agree. I really do wonder how to host pictures. I
tried on my personal web site, but it just isn't practical. One time I
posted someone else's pictures, but had to take them down after a few
days because my personal web site was in danger of using up it's monthly
bandwidth allotment. Perhaps I should just suck up and pay a higher
hosting fee.

It does burn me up though that I have to go to all this effort to share
a few pictures, meanwhile I'm sure far more bandwidth is used by
spammers e-mailing me, or commercial web sites which use gratuitous
pictures etc.

I'm starting to feel like the internet is going to die a slow death as
it gets taken over by pointless advertising, drowning out all the real
sharing of information and even drowning out online trade (I mean it's
like pulling teeth to buy anything on the web - partly because the
companies put so much gorp on their sites).
