Is "Maersk Blue" (as it applies to LEGO bricks) the exact same color as • the
light blue that came out a couple years ago in Star Wars sets and before
that in Scala and Belville?  Or is it a different color?

I *think* I heard at BrickFest that Maersk Blue was made just for the • Maersk
promo sets

   http://guide.lugnet.com/set/?q=1552,1831,1651_2,1650

and that (somehow) the LEGO/Maersk licensing agreement prohobited LEGO • from
reusing the color in non-Maersk-branded sets.  But according to Arne Lykke
Nielsen, who owns the Maersk sets, this might not be the case.  He reports
that the mid-1980's DUPLO set 2756 uses the same exact blue:

Did I hear wrong at BrickFest?  Or did LEGO obtain permission to re-use
Maersk Blue?

I'd be surprised if that was the case. As Simon Bennett says elsewhere in
this thread, it is widely used at various LEGOLANDs, particularly for boat
hulls at Windsor. I can also confirm that the chief modelmaker there said
production of it has been discontinued and he was trying to get as much of
it as possible.

Also, it has been used for 1x1 rounds in this set:

Does anyone own both a Maersk promo set (with Maersk Blue) and a recent • Star
Wars set (with light blue)?  Can you confirm that they are different or
identical colors?

As has been said and can be seen elsewhere, they are different. Personally I
prefer the Maersk blue, and regardless of a shortage or otherwise I have
been fortunate enough to be able to acquire small quantities of 1*x and 2*x
plates, bricks, tiles, 1x1 'headlight' bricks, 1x1 rounds and 1x2 tiles with
centre studs at the Red Letter Days that have been held at Windsor this
year. Here's some of it:

(...) Good grief Huw, that's a fair old haul of maersk blue! You've got more bricks there than I have tan and green 1x4x3 train windows put together... ;-) Jason J Railton (22 years ago, 5-Sep-02, to lugnet.promo, lugnet.general, lugnet.loc.dk)
