I have a question for a very novice modder.... Let's just say... someone wanted to cut some Lego train track... what fairly common, and inexpensive tool could an novice with a limited tool selection/budget to attempt said mod? (...) That is definatly a tuning coil. You may be able to swap the coil to the opposite side of the board, but adding long wire would be a vey bad idea. If you swap it, orientation is very important. You will need to mark it's oreintation on the (...) (20 years ago, 19-May-05, to lugnet.parts.mod, FTX)

(...) That sounds plausible, although I'm not an electronics expert it has that look to me. Ideally it would be good to unsolder it and place it on the other side of the board but that probably won't be possible. If it was a coil+ferrite core would (...) (...) Tim, The "large thing" looks like some kind of coil+ferrite core to me. AFAIK That is really part of the tuned circuit for the radio reception. Has anyone had any experience with doing this? Basically I want to take the innards of one and put it in as small a 'brick' as possible, add a power input to allow connection of external battery box/es and a connector to allow remote connection of (...) Hi all! I started working with this and got a surprice. For the project below I intend to use: (URL) I picked (URL) for a test I downloaded the file and tried to view it - illegal gif file - a close view showed that the file is a PNG file not a GIF (...) The studlet would hopefully be well designed that it was still a partial stud, and still be able to connect upwards to a plate from underneath - it would basically be the intersection of a normall stud, and the outer curvature of the macaroni (...) (20 years ago, 28-Apr-05, to lugnet.parts)

One way which TLG could go forward on this would be to place a studlet (partial stud) on the top of the macaroni bricks, that fits quite snug into the notch. You would then end up with an effect like the 2x2 round bricks stacked. This would give a (...) (20 years ago, 28-Apr-05, to lugnet.parts)

Just don't shell them all the way through like an LDraw part - the whole peak and a good part of the surrounding area could eiter be solid ABS (or some kind of rib or enclosure structure) for strength. I was looking thru a bunch of old 1950's macaroni bricks I purchased recently from a Danish collector. The macaroni bricks were first introduced in 1955. From 1955-57 they came in 4 different types, after 1957 only the type we know today continued (...) (20 years ago, 27-Apr-05, to lugnet.general, lugnet.parts)

(...) Nice diagrams Jason (and fellow Michiganian)! I mentioned a 1x6x2 Gothic arch, but I guess it would be too narrow in the middle, a 1x6x3 arch makes much more sense. Maybe even a 1x5x5 half Gothic arch would be nice. One other thing about (...) (20 years ago, 22-Apr-05, to lugnet.parts, FTX)
