The only point that I don't really prefer, is the landing gear. After being
chastised by Grand Admiral Muffin Head over using similar gear on my
freighter, I've crossed lines to join the ranks that prefer the click hinges
for gear.

At the first MichLUG meeting, there was a ship with a very cool, but simple
design for landing gear.  Here are some picture links:

Unfortunately, they're all detail shots, and the ship is upside down.

The basic idea is to put together two pairs of part 2880, the rod with
hinge-fingers at each end
(<http://guide.lugnet.com/partsref/search.cgi?q=2880>).  mount the paired
arms at right angles to each other.  This gives a very compact gear that
retracts straight into the ship.  The bottom of the gear-pad can be used as
the cover to the hole.  It's really cool.

Unfortunately, I don't remember who did this very cool ship, so I can't give
proper credit!  So I'm crossposting to MichLUG--who brought this ship?

Steve

That ship is Mark Koesel's creation, an M-Tron MOC, which I loved to death. I took the picture of (...) (23 years ago, 17-Jul-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.org.us.michlug)

(...) <snip> Yes, those are quite nice. I used the same parts for the 'gear on my Space Police Viper. I do like the ones in the pictures, however, because they use the parts in two directions, which would give the ship a bit more stability than just (...) (...) There's a nice array of weaponry and I like the side by side cockpits, especially. The silhouette is very good, too. Nice and narrow from the side and the front. I would have to think it would be quite difficult to visually spot in space, (...) (23 years ago, 12-Jul-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.org.us.sealug)
