I usually cruise the other groups in LUGNET by taking a gander at the
top highlighted stories. Most of these are pretty high-quality, and I
understand how they get highlighted.
For example, the latest Brick Testament installment is read by many, and
I imagine a few folks highlighted it.
Clearly some folks highlight their own posts. But I really had to laugh
recently when a post showed up on the spotlight list. It contained
links to brickshelf, but no deep links. The pictures hadn't been
approved yet, so you couldn't actually see what the post was talking
about. And yet it was spotlighted.
Hmmm.
I think self-spotlighting is a little bit antisocial to begin with, but
not taking the care to wait until the links work before you
self-spotlight is a disservice.
I did check the highlighting - 1 rank 100 spotlight. I wonder who
spotlighted it, eh?

| (...) <snip> (...) Do you think that rtlToronto, which seems to sit quite consistently in the top 5 posted groups on the traffic page, needs to have some of the posts highlighted? Eh, I don't. I like my little quiet place in the dusty back corners (...) (21 years ago, 24-Jul-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
