Pretty good, Derek.  I'd offer the following mod to it:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=210623

It uses one fewer modules, but eliminates the need for the odd one.

It also leaves room on either side of the track for switchyards, etc.

That's a neat idea too, however it doesn't leave much room for
buildings, and it will require everyone to rebuild their modules.  I was
trying to remain with the standard module layout with the track to the
outside.  This way anyone with already prepared modules could still drop
them in place.

I think that's why he said he might have to re-design it....or else it
would make the layout bulge out from the center....which we probably don't
have the space or the tables for.

On the other hand the center track idea would give me an excuse to
rebuild my train station in the way I originally envisioned it.  So I'm
not against this if others are willing to rework their modules.

This sounds like fun....I might just have to re-build mine so they are
"level" with the others.

Jeff VW can you make your damn work with this kind of layout?

I'd been fiddling around with the idea of making a layout for the next
event, but my plan was to make a small, convoluted "core", and have
people who were absolutely sure to make it build and bring those
modules.  Then there'd be an 'extension loop' and possibly a yard area,
where anyone else who wished to come could insert their module.

We could have one loop of the figure 8 be the integrated core design,
and the other loop be for the add on people.  I know some people are
planing to build fewer modules then before.  If possible they could
bring empty modules and track to fill in the gaps as needed in the
secondary loop of the 8.

This would allow us to make some pretty funky layouts, with room for
whatever crazy buildings or features the core builder wanted.

It requires a certain amount of organization and collaboration to set
up.  What do folks think?

I like this.  I'd like to incorporate my monorail into the layout too.
A more integrated design would make this easier to do.

Derek

Sounds good.  I like the overall idea.
