So I got this NXT thingy.... —David Koudys
Got it last night, didn't do much to it besides rip open the box and put some battries in it to hear the 'on' sound (miss the old 'beep beep' of the RCX, but that's neither here nor there...) Today I installed NXT software, update firmware, and then (...) (18 years ago, 28-Feb-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) One of my favorites is turning a pair of NXTs into a $500USD remote control car, that I won't take out in the snow. (18 years ago, 28-Feb-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) Oh I'm working up to bid on another--I'm aiming for the same amount of cash--180 to 200 US--maybe i build an off road entry to compete with you--this time you should have a good chance of kicking my heinie :) But i'll use 1 for now--figure it (...)      (...) BTW, you can change the "on" sound. If you replace the !startup.rso file with another .rso, you'll get the new sound. And, on this page, there's a program that will convert a .wav file to a .rso file... (URL) all you need is a recording of the (...) (18 years ago, 28-Feb-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) Not to be confused with the roadrunner's "beep beep" Waves at Steve and Dave, (long time no see) and to distract them from the Acme Anvil hanging right over their NXTs. Giggles Janey "NXT-free Red Brick" (18 years ago, 28-Feb-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: So I got this NXT thingy.... —David Koudys
First build--the AlphaRex The bad--the instructions have the 'rubber' foot non slippy thing on one side but not the other. I found that the 'bot walks better when there's rubber on both feet. someone'll probably tell me that's it's missing for (...) (18 years ago, 2-Mar-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: So I got this NXT thingy.... —Calum Tsang
(...) That's the largest barrier for me with that NXT...studless construction. I know there are studless converts here (Iain, JohnG, Ivan) but for me, I find it really difficult. It's like Chris and programming in C. (...) Actually, I think the NXT (...) (18 years ago, 2-Mar-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: So I got this NXT thingy.... —Derek Raycraft
(...) That's what I found at FLL this year too. A lot of teams had NXTs but didn't end up using them because they found them harder to build with. The kids get the idea of stacking blocks one on top of another. It's a whole other head space when (...) (18 years ago, 2-Mar-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: So I got this NXT thingy.... —John Barnes
(...) I have to mention that I have been bulding studless "things" for over a year now and when I started it, I hated it. Didn't seem easy or obvious, no particular way up, and it seemed to need a lot of planning because ripping it apart all the (...) (18 years ago, 2-Mar-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: So I got this NXT thingy.... —Calum Tsang

That's the part I guess I haven't resolved for myself: Is the studless construction "paradigm" harder for us because it: a) is different from what we know and are used to? b) is actually intrisically worse than regular traditional Technic Lego (...)         Re: So I got this NXT thingy.... —Derek Raycraft
(...) I have to agree with you, it does grow on you. I'm not opposed to the studless system. It offers a lot of flexibility. Like you I'm getting used to it. However I do think it's a tricky concept for kids at the FLL age. I think there is a (...) (18 years ago, 2-Mar-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: So I got this NXT thingy.... —Brian Davis

You will be assimilated... actually, while I've always liked hybrid construction, with the NXT I tend toward studless, at least partially because I have my studless sorted seperate from my studded, and... well, I really like the look of stuf (...)
