  Metroliner (10001)

Is the Metroliner set a good one as a first train set? It says it has no regulator...what does it come with then? How does it run? Alternatively, is there a better suggestion for a first train set ($ are a factor here...) Thanks, -Rob A> (20 years ago, 17-May-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Metroliner (10001)

(...) The Metroloiner is a decent set and it would be wise to pick one up before it disappears again. The set does require a regulator which is not included. They can be gotten cheap on ebay or bricklink. Lego sells them for $40 but they can be had (...) (20 years ago, 17-May-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Metroliner (10001)

(...) The Metroliner is a great set, and probably the best one that's out there right now, but you are right it doesn't come with a regulator. It does however come with a motor. This makes it a good second set. I would recommend getting something (...) (20 years ago, 17-May-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Metroliner (10001)

(...) I think it's a question of what you want to achieve: -Do you want a set of all the "train pieces" so you can build your own? -Do you want a nicely rounded set which stands on its own? If it's more of the former, then there's clearance 4561's, (...) (20 years ago, 18-May-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Metroliner (10001)

(...) Where are there clearance 4512's?? I purchased a few 4561s on clearance years ago, but would love a 4512, but not willing unless there's a little discount :) Dave K -who would love to hit the Sears Clearance in Brampton as much as some others (20 years ago, 18-May-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Metroliner (10001)

(...) Sorry, by that I meant, clearance 4561's or normal 4512's. However, there was a big sale before Christmas where the 4512 was only $120 or so at Toys R Us. (...) Well, you need to have some prerequisites: a) Unemployment or lack of a life. b) (...) (20 years ago, 18-May-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Metroliner (10001)

NO, the metroliner is a ~BAD~ set. STAY AWAY from all train stuff like the plague!!!! you'd be better off spending your hard earned $$ on a set that will ~DO~ something. oh sure, others will tell you that a motorized layout can do(?) something. but (...) (...) <spipped - a bunch of Chris' train envy coming to the fore...> (...) Chris - I'd love to do more with robotics...but because of my complete lack of imagination and one RIS kit, I feel limited in what I can build... I can make (...) (20 years ago, 18-May-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

interesting robot stuff (was not-so-interesting Metroliner (10001))

(...) I'm pretty sure it CAN be done with the electronics from a single RIS kit. I've been thinking about doing just that. But, I'm not sure I can get it done in time. Oh well. Steve (20 years ago, 18-May-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

AND if you are thinking of buying a 10001 you want to check out the market forum on LUGNET since there is an offer to get one for 30%, or 2+ for 50% OFF direct from shop@home. NOT bAD PRICE!!! (20 years ago, 20-May-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Metroliner (10001)

(...) Oh, didn't mention that if you need a speed reg. I have at least 6 right now. So I'll give you one if you need it. THe only thing I don't have any spares of is the actual track connector. THink you can get one from S@H though. Still cheaper (...) (20 years ago, 20-May-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  More C$

(...) Rob, This tiny bit of encouragement (challenge) was all I needed to set out building a Connect Four robot using only electronics from an RIS. I came up with the idea before rtl15, and almost converted my second "rnd-7" robot to use this method (...) (20 years ago, 1-Jun-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
