NMRA is a lot more people who need to be coordinated (Derek, JeffE, JeffVW,
Dave, Jeremy, myself, Iain) that need to be on site, on time.

I'm not sure if I believe Lego is really a hobby. Or maybe it is, but I perhaps
don't want to be associated with it. If a hobby is a bunch of old guys
splitting hairs about what type of coupler is on a Santa Fe SD70MAC, maybe this
isn't something I want to be part of.
Or maybe, we've never approached here like that, it's always been event
driven-do a robotics contest, do a train display. It's very much project
oriented instead of lifestyle oriented. Perhaps we've kept an "in the closet"
approach, ie, we're not loud or proud about Lego.

I think that's the general direction it needs to continue with.

It can't be like that. Someone still needs to set it all up. In small groups,
the leader can't sit back and watch, it's truly dependent on you. Mark my
words: if you don't step up to the plate, a listless group of
volunteers will flounder.
