Re: OT: Anyone know how the Phaeton W12 engine works?

(...) I made a little label on my computer for my old car when I was learning how to drive. I calculated out the r/min based on the gear ratios for my car's transmission as to when would be the best speed to shift into what gear at. Iain (21 years ago, 3-Nov-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: OT: Anyone know how the Phaeton W12 engine works?

(...) The review I saw said that the W12 would only be available as an automatic. Iain (21 years ago, 3-Nov-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

it could be me, but I find this image bordering on the risqué. (URL) children should NOT click this link - 1) Chris 1 - unless your parents are not in the room, then go right ahead.... click away Trevyn, and Calum. (21 years ago, 3-Nov-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: OT: Anyone know how the Phaeton W12 engine works?

(...) Wow, they really do use Flubber. So did they do this for a functional reason or just to make an engine that looks like their Logo? I want to work at a company that has the money to throw at screwy things like this. But John, I'll give you (...) (21 years ago, 3-Nov-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: OT: Anyone know how the Phaeton W12 engine works?

(...) Actually, that's a good point. A lot of cars nowadays are so quiet at idle, that you really need to check the tach to make sure that the engine IS running. And not accidentally try to start a running engine - the sound of grinding gears is (...) (21 years ago, 3-Nov-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: OT: Anyone know how the Phaeton W12 engine works?

(...) You can still use the speedometer. Unless you got lots of wheel spin there is a direct relationship between the tack and the speedometer. In fact the speedometer is often attached to the drive shaft so even wheel spin is removed. Derek (21 years ago, 3-Nov-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: OT: Anyone know how the Phaeton W12 engine works?

(...) What if, on something like the Phaeton, which, in the words of the reviewer, has "vault like silence", you don't get that vibration or noise cues? Hence, you might need to use the tach. Calum (21 years ago, 3-Nov-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: OT: Anyone know how the Phaeton W12 engine works?

In our talking it came out that she bought her ECHO at the same dealership I did, from the same sales guy! Alan Pfaff. (URL) was really good to both of (...)   Re: OT: Anyone know how the Phaeton W12 engine works?

(...) Well. That comes back to the question of "needing" a tachometer. I've noticed that like almost automatics have tachometers. Neither of the cars I've owned had/have a tach, and both had/do have a manually actuated gearbox. I think that's funny. (...) (21 years ago, 3-Nov-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: OT: Anyone know how the Phaeton W12 engine works?

(...) This is definitely Johns domain, but as far as I know, the W12 is just two VR6's stuck together like siamese twins. Its still a single crankshaft. I don't see why the 'W' thing is such a big deal. The cylinders are offset (ie not in a straight (...) (21 years ago, 2-Nov-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

OT: Anyone know how the Phaeton W12 engine works?

I've read that VW/Audi had both a dual VR6 configuration used in some sort of prototype sports car as well as a true 12 cylinder where sets of three cylinders pushed a driveshaft. I think the Phaeton W12 is the former, but how do you sync and drive (...) (21 years ago, 2-Nov-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
