  I got this NAILED

HA! don't even bother showing up guys. it took a few hours, BUT i have the software nailed. I now have a bot, that can drive to the box, and through a neat sensor arrangement know when i am climbing AND at the top. so if you are silly enough to use (...)   Re: ready or not.... your OUT!

(...) I have a couple things to say, here. First of all, I'd suggest the main goal of this whole thing is for everyone to have fun. Right? And fun is catchy. It seems to me if we're having fun, the audience will have fun. And they also add to the (...) (22 years ago, 12-Mar-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: ready or not.... your OUT!

(...) <snip> (...) Now this type of leadership is inspiring... Nicely said Chris. I always figured that Calum was more the diplomat... ;) Anyway, I'm going to start a 'bot tonight, and see how far I get. If it's completely technicolour, it's because (...)   Re: ready or not.... your OUT!

(...) Bruce..... lets try this this one time. if we find it changes the dynamic of the games/group they we have learned a lesson. I don't need to remind you that library fee's jumped 6 fold. we used to get the place for the DAY for a small $50 fee. (...) (22 years ago, 12-Mar-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Sets for Sale from Victor Rehorst

Most of you remember Victor Rehorst, who ran the University of Guelph event. Anyways, he has the following sets for sale. They can be picked up from him in downtown Toronto or in Guelph. Email chuma@chuma.org for more info. --Calum (...) (22 years ago, 12-Mar-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: ready or not.... your OUT!

This is not what our group is about, never has been. In my opinion, we've taken a step in the wrong direction. (22 years ago, 12-Mar-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: ready or not.... your OUT!

(...) Did I hear you offering fronting the nearly $300 a day fee it'll cost to rent the Library post spring 2003? Thanks Bruce! Calum (22 years ago, 12-Mar-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: ready or not.... your OUT!

(...) First, I'd like to point out that I'm almost always ready. This discussion about scoring, being ready, and entertaining people for an hour is really bringing home the point that we're selling ourselves out for the stink'in library. My interest (...)   Re: ready or not.... your OUT!

No worries Chris... remember my only-ever Sumo entry? The fish sticker from the Diver's line of sets? It fulfilled all the rules: * only Lego parts * less than 12" cube * Only 1 RCX etc. Well, I could bring him again... PLAY FOR THE TIE! Jeff (...)   ready or not.... your OUT!

Calum... all thought the idea of "you have to be ready when called" works great for huge events and TV... we just cant afford that on a contest point of view. we ALL have had to tweak our robots before the game... during the game, and I've even (...)   Re: How to Run a Double-Elimination Match

(...) ya know.... I really thought I paid todd enough of a bribe to keep you off the list.... I guess I should have offered more. I'd still like to have a go at the software. I like the idea of everyone playing everyone... but if we can do it faster (...) (22 years ago, 12-Mar-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: How to Run a Double-Elimination Match

(...) The big problem with the elimination is that in each match, one robot must win, and the other must lose. That doesn't fit with the rules for this event. This software will rank robots based on the points scored, and in the next round, put them (...) (22 years ago, 12-Mar-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: How to Run a Double-Elimination Match

(...) Well, bring it up and let's see. It might be exactly what we need! (...) from the rule page: Only one robot is on top of the pedestal: Winner gets 2 points, loser, 0. Both robots are on the top of the pedestal: Each gets 1 point. Both robots (...) (22 years ago, 11-Mar-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: How to Run a Double-Elimination Match

In lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto, Jeff Elliott writes: a great explanation of single and especially double elimination which I snipped but which I have to try to remember since I'll be running something at GenCon Indy ...   Re: How to Run a Double-Elimination Match

(...) Okay. We usually have anywhere from 8-12 entries, so that's not a bad guess at all. (...) That fits okay, because 7x3minutes is only 21 minutes and we have a total of an hour to officially entertain, according to the schedule. (...) :) (...) (...)   Re: How to Run a Double-Elimination Match

I'M BACK! I was just telling Chris about some software I wrote to score our SUMO matches for the Lafayette club. It sort of combines the elimination with a round robin. It's hard to explain in 25 words or less, but it's been used several times with (...) (22 years ago, 11-Mar-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

How to Run a Double-Elimination Match

Chris, I'm sure software exists, but we need to decide the format before the software can tell us who plays whom. Ok, here's how you run single-elimination, for reference: Let's say you have 8 competitors: A thru H. I'll use the abbreviation "W1" (...) (22 years ago, 11-Mar-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Match Elimination Rules

(...) It's called single-elimination. It's pretty cruel for an event like ours, where people's robots often malfunction or just get unlucky -- do that once, and you're out. You can consider round-robin in several groups, then the top bots compete (...) (22 years ago, 11-Mar-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: I broke my leg...

(...) This is inspiring??? Rugrats--Hmmm... Nope--no inspiration there... Even the banter in here from you and Bruce is falling a little flat... I mean, I know someone outlawed 'anti-x' postings but there was some good tauntage factors for that (...) (22 years ago, 11-Mar-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: I broke my leg...

OK, a few things. I've never broken a leg; Rob, I'm sorry to hear about your misfotune. What I dont fully understand is.... I never knew you built all your lego robots with your feet. I guess a cast on your lego would make it tough to build now. (...) (22 years ago, 11-Mar-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
