Re: A new way for geeks to move around

(...) Good points, all the way around. I could understand a new transportation technology to replace cars, but why replace walking? Steve (23 years ago, 4-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: A new way for geeks to move around

(...) what was wrong with walking? or those 4 wheeled rascal things for those who can't? or the mo-ped? or the gas powered scooter? $3000? that buys a lot of lego. OOPS, sorry, supposed to be off topic here. (23 years ago, 4-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) It's very Jetson-y. A partial response to the question, "Hey! It's the third millenium! Where are the all the cool gadgets? Where's my flying car?" Or, it just looks geeky. You decide. Steve (23 years ago, 4-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) But that has nothing to do with how cool it is. I mean, you can just stand there and it moves you around. Groovy. ~Grand Admiral Muffin Head (23 years ago, 4-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Digital Camera?

(...) :) well, sure. But I think you'll find that a) most digital cameras out there work pretty well for general purpose stuff, and b) you'll be able to find a lot of information and reviews in general, but very few of them will mention the camera's (...)   Re: Digital Camera?

(...) Thank you to everyone for your input. One thing that strikes me as particularly amusing is that everyone is giving suggestions for cameras that photograph LEGO models well, but I should probably have specified that I'd be taking pictures of (...)   Re: Digital Camera?

(...) It's cool because in the macro mode, things *more* than a few centimeters out of where you're focusing are slightly blurry. This lends the impression that the scene is full human scale instead of miniature. (23 years ago, 27-Nov-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Digital Camera?

(...) Yes, as has been mentioned, a closeup macro is a very important feature for photographing LEGO. Also, take note of the focus depth. A few months ago I was helping one of my fellow SEALUG'ers investigate cameras, and I think we found that the (...) (23 years ago, 27-Nov-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Digital Camera?

(...) Definitely. It's also good to have one that takes good pictures in low light, since you want to avoid using a flash with lego. (Too shiny.) Check out (URL) for good digital camera reviews. (23 years ago, 27-Nov-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.publish.photography)

I don't really have any suggestions, just some pointers... we use a Mavica-FD88 for all our pictures, and found that for LEGO, a macro capability is very very important - zoom much less so.   Digital Camera?

I'm looking into picking up a digital camera and thought some of us here might have some good suggestions. I'm a very casual photographer, so I don't need built-in X-ray lenses or anything, but can someone recommend a good value in the neighborhood (...) Dunno if anyone will be interested in this, but I wrote a small newsticker app: (URL) designed as a netscape6/mozilla sidebar, but can work on any browser - if you cannot use sidebars, it'll just pop up as a new window. :) Dan (23 years ago, 19-Nov-01, to lugnet.admin.nntp, lugnet.off-topic.geek) !!
