Well, honestly, it's not the best monitor out there. But:

VESA, XGA, SVGA, VGA Compatible
VESA 85Hz Refresh Rate Preset [2]
1280x1024 maximum resolution
So I'd say you're not using it to its full potential.
I'm not sure exactly what video card you have, but any ATI Rage II AGP card
should be able to do 1280x1024 no problem.
