Re: Titanium PowerBook (was: Re: What if Steve Jobs ran The LEGO Company?)

(...) No, I use the one built into my laptop. Less to carry that way. ++Lar (24 years ago, 23-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Titanium PowerBook (was: Re: What if Steve Jobs ran The LEGO Company?)

(...) Which, if you're a road warrior, you would leave home. People ask me why I drag out my laptop to listen to MP3s on the plane, when a CD player (or an MP3 player or minidisk player, Sony has one that is the size of a minidisk plus a very small (...) (...) I'm not sure if the GTK libs are availbe for RO? ( I seem to recall GTK+ being a acronym fro GIMP TOOLkit+ a distinctly non RO program... But if porting the GTK+ to RO would mean better RO software... Altoguh ISTR there being an ARM BSD or ARM (...) (24 years ago, 23-Feb-01, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Titanium PowerBook

Oops. I looked closely at my experiment with Marc Atkin's movie, "2001: A Lego Odyssey". It's not so easy to compress. The Sorenson 2 video codec does ruin the quality. Maybe it would improve with the professional package -- the basic codec suffers (...) (24 years ago, 23-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Titanium PowerBook

(...) I guess I won't be able to test this from my position. (...) The other cool machine on sale! (...) Yup. It's $900 difference, for a faster CPU, +128mb SO-DIMM (not sure if separate chip), and +10gb disk. The last two items are about $100 each (...) (24 years ago, 23-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Titanium PowerBook (was: Re: What if Steve Jobs ran The LEGO Company?)

(...) I heard somewhere (I think it was a discussion group on a Mac fansite) that the 400 MHz units didn't play DVD's as smoothly as the 500 MHz units. I can't remember if that was on battery power or plugged in. My Vaio C1VN (powered by a 600 MHz (...) (24 years ago, 23-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

wireless (was: Re: Pictures for set #3032 - No interest?)

(...) Thanks & LOL -- ya, it's an 11Mbps wireless PCMIA LAN card. It talks IEEE 802.something, which means it can talk to an Apple Airport as well as a Cisco base station. Now the only thing left to tweak is DNS settings and mail relaying for (...) (24 years ago, 23-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Geek question:

Is there/was there a system which wrote line breaks as 0x0A0D ? That is, line feed then carriage return. (24 years ago, 22-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: What if Steve Jobs ran The LEGO Company?

You can talk about my software, Steve... it's even on the web too. More of the this story: (...) Scott from Datavision called again today! "Everything ok there? I just received 4 or 5 of the 400mhz units. You know anyone waiting for one?" As a (...) (24 years ago, 22-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: MSIE5.5 New Window

Also: I keep hearing people go on about how IE won the browser war by, admit it, being a better browser. Do these people *use* bookmarks? I mean, sure, Netscape's system isn't perfect, but it looks wonderful in comparison. (24 years ago, 19-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: MSIE5.5 New Window

(...) Pretty sure that's a "feature". I hate it too. (24 years ago, 19-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Microsoft spreads Linux FUD

(...) I'm more concerned about things going the other way -- IP laws, especially software patents, but also bans on reverse engineering (as with DeCSS), being extended to the point where open source can't reasonably compete. The situation with DeCSS (...) (24 years ago, 19-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  MSIE5.5 New Window

I'm using MSIE5.5 on my new computer...I like it a lot but I'm still getting used to some things. When I hit Ctrl-N to open a new browser window, for example, it actually makes a clone copy of the current window rather than opening a new blank (...)   Re: Microsoft spreads Linux FUD

(...) We had some of this debate before... I'm not sure what I think, exactly. Open Source clearly works and delivers good things but there has to be an incentive of some sort to cause clever people to do clever things. Whether IP is the best way, I (...)   Re: Microsoft spreads Linux FUD

The principles of openness and sharing demonstrated in the (...) (24 years ago, 19-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Microsoft spreads Linux FUD

(...) Well, this part IS true, as far as it goes. That's the idea, after all!!! If you read the GNU Manifesto, it comes through loud and clear. MS has a simple answer to it though, make stuff that's so much *better* than what you can get for free (...) (24 years ago, 18-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
