Dave, I've gotten that message too. I believe he subscribes to the newsgroup via email, so it autoreplies anyone who sends him mail - which in this case was you (via the lugnet newsgroup). Perhaps if this is a nuisance someone from the group should (...) (24 years ago, 27-Sep-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Unexpected Email Message

Lately I've been once again griping about trivial Star Wars issues, specifically dealing with the Padme/Amidal "ruse" in TPM. In lugnet.general, Eric Kingsley writes about stopping SPAM It can be easy to report abuse. (...) Amazon.com URL-hacking tip: You can safely delete the qid= and sr= stuff as well as the session-ID at the end. An advantage this has over pure semaphores or mutexes is that, since it has a sort of "memory" about how many times an IP address has recent sent a failure, it could easily respond with immediate 403 errors (upon (...) I've been thinking about this more tonight, and reading a bit about SysV semaphores, but I don't have experience with them and I'm finding the docs confusing, especially where Perl is concerned.
